YOUR ROLE


Accountable for setting-up carrier and vendor contracts, and coordinating all activities between field locations, hubs, contracted carriers and other departments as appropriate to ensure the most expedient movement of customer materials. Also, responsible for negotiations for both purchased transportation capacity and the selling of loads; works with the DAT boards, supervises dispatchers; and ensures compliance of company policies and procedures, ISO guidelines and regulatory requirements. Models and acts in accordance with our guiding principles and core values.


WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO?

  • Manage the spot quote department.
  • Hire, supervise and train dispatch personnel.
  • Ensure prompt and accurate completion of all paperwork associated with movement of inbound and outbound shipments.
  • Negotiate spot contracts with carriers and customers.
  • Control equipment trailers, tractors and rail cars.
  • Supervise and schedule dispatchers for a 24/7 operation.
  • Support the affiliate network with capacity requirements.
  • Manage and forecast capacity needs for all modes of transportation.
  • Communicate pending work and/or unresolved problems to the following shift personnel and the operations manager.
  • Ensure that all personnel are providing a high level of customer service to both internal and external customers.
  • Keep current on inter-modal pricing and service commitments.
  • Perform other duties as needed.
  • Accurately manage and maintain departmental administrative tasks such as accounting, reporting and recordkeeping in accordance with internal policies and state and federal regulations.
  • Address all employee performance problems promptly and directly in accordance with personnel policies.
  • Conduct annual performance reviews for all staff within department.


WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR?


Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum one year supervisory or managerial experience required
  • Minimum four years related experience.
  • Bachelor's Degree preferred; or equivalent combination of work experience and completion of the LDP Program.
  • Minimum three years industry experience preferred.


Languages and Communication Skills

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from management, employees and vendors.
  • Ability to communicate and interact effectively with people from multi-functional and diverse backgrounds.
  • Must be able to read, write, and communicate fluently in English.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.


Computer Skills

  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office, internet, web-based and job specific software applications.
  • Computer literate

  • In-depth knowledge of dispatch functions
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide using units of U.S. and/or international currency, weight, volume and distance measurements.
  • Ability to model the organization's vision and values and lead others.
  • Analyzes complex problems and develops alternative solutions.
  • Knowledgeable of inter-modal pricing, service agreements and DAT Board.
  • Use appropriate methods and a flexible interpersonal style to help build a cohesive team and facilitate the completion of team goals.
