This Opportunity
WSP USA is currently seeking a Traffic/ITS Engineer to join our thriving Regional Traffic Engineering practice in Tampa, FL or Orlando, FL! The successful candidate will have extensive experience in both public and private traffic engineering projects.
Your Impact
- Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
- Work collaboratively with other engineers, planners, scientific professionals, and DOT authorities on Federal, State, regional, and locally funded road and transportation improvement and development projects.
- Assist in the analysis, evaluation, and interpretation of data obtained during field/site investigations, offering input with developing action plans for low to mid-level risk mitigation activities.
- Collect, compile, and analyze data from the physical work site, surveys, blueprints, GIS data, maps, technical data, and other matrices for project development, design, and construction.
- Assist in the preparation and implementation of site Health and Safety Plans (HASPs).
- Work as an individual or as part of a cross-functional team of engineers, planners, and scientific professionals to execute project work, assist with laying out roadways, establishing reference points/elevations/grades to guide construction, calculating costs and quantities of material/equipment/labor, and ensuring project work conforms with specifications, permit applications, compliance documentation, and regulatory and technical analysis memos.
- Conduct engineering studies and surveys to gain further information on a particular design and construction problem or issue and/or to plan for future needs.
- Participate in incorporating advanced modeling techniques, concept development, design requirements, and operating strategies to account for the safety and functionality of end-users, transportation vehicles/systems, and incorporate future-ready solutions with traffic engineering design standards.
- Perform professional traffic engineering work and assist with conducting investigations and inspections of proposed and existing site conditions, roadways, intersections, signage, signals, pavement markings, and transportation corridors to determine conformance with applicable rules, standards, and construction or operating permits.
- Investigate accident data and determines if changes can be made to roadways or intersections to make it safer for all who use the roads.
Who You Are
Required Qualifications
- Experience with roadway planning, design, and construction management; including project involvement in a variety of infrastructure projects, rehabilitation and construction of pavement, navigational aids, grading design, and safety management.
- Capable interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.
- Knowledge with DOT advisory circulars and procedures.
- Ability to coordinate with agency regulators and understand requirements.
- Engineer in Training Certification.
- Knowledge of traffic engineering principles, practices, process, and design/build related to traffic control equipment, capacity and operational analysis, project management, and related communications systems.
- Knowledge of relevant roadway transportation construction laws, codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, or closely related discipline.
- 3 to 5 years of relevant post education experience in engineering discipline and prior traffic design experience.
- Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s Degree in Engineering. #LI-PJ1
