The blocks that form our foundational teams — People, Finance, Counsel, Information Security, Platform Infrastructure Engineering, and more — provide support and guidance at the corporate level. They work across business groups and around the globe, spanning time zones and disciplines to develop inclusive People policies, forecast finances, give legal counsel, safeguard systems, nurture new initiatives, and more. Every challenge creates possibilities, and we need different perspectives to see them all. Bring yours to Block.

This requires project ownership from the conceptual to detail design and subsequent prototype and production builds at the factory. You will evaluate early field failures and implement engineering solutions throughout the sustaining engineering phase until the conclusion of the product's life cycle.

This is a remote-friendly role. #LI-remote

You Will:

  • Architect and design important thermal management solutions for high power electronics
  • Communicate your designs in CAD, presentations, or hands-on prototypes, in front of a group
  • Work closely with teams such as Electrical Engineering, Factory Test, and Operations teams to design and validate new products
  • Design high-volume plastic and metal parts
  • Develop rapid prototypes using common prototyping techniques such as 3D printing, machining, etc.
  • Work with Product teams to architect and refine new product concepts
  • Forge partnerships with our CMs to ensure successful builds

Unique aspects to the BTC Engineering team:

  • Responsible for the sustaining in-production products including early field failure analysis (EFFA), design improvements, rework, and setting ongoing reliability testing specs (ORT)
  • Ownership of elements of product and engineering program management especially in early project phases
  • Working with our CM partners in both OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturing) and JDM (Joint Design Manufacturing) models
  • Responsible for tooling bring-up and manufacturing design engineering of all new tools and processes
  • Responsible for reliability testing including putting together a validation plan, using our CM partner’s DQE teams to perform the testing, and reviewing, presenting and approving the data

Qualifications
  • Mechanical design experience
  • Design experience with systems with critical thermal requirements
  • Experience with volume manufacturing processes and DFM
  • Experience designing parts with high cosmetic requirements
  • Experience with Computational Fluid Dynamics for thermal simulations (e.g., Ansys, ICEPAK, FloTHERM) or an equivalent software
  • Proficiency in industry standard CAD tools - SolidWorks a plus
  • 5+ years direct or equivalent work experience in Product Design
