Job Description


NEW BEDFORD, MAWe are seeking a motivated Therape utic Mentor to join our team. As a Therapeutic Mentor, you will provide support to children and teenagers with emotional and behavioral challenges, helping them develop skills to navigate daily life. Qualifications


  • Bachelor’s degree in a human service field from an accredited university and one (1) year experience working with children/adolescents/transition age youth; or
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
  • Associate’s degree in a human services field from an accredited school and one (1) year of experience working with the target population; or
  • High school diploma or GED and a minimum of two (2) years of experience working with children/adolescents/transition age youth
  • 21 years of age or older


Responsibilities: The following responsibilities are not meant to be all inclusive and may be adjusted to meet the agency’s needs


  • Offers services in the youth’s home and community
  • Submits monthly/quarterly summaries, progress notes, and discharge paperwork
  • Develops an individualized service plan with the client
  • Will work the youth in the following areas including: teaching of alternative strategies, role-playing, behavioral rehearsal, skill acquisition in the community, practicing skills in the community, exposure to social situations in which age-appropriate skills can be practiced, enhancing conflict resolution skills, developing communication skills
  • Engages the youth in activities in the community
  • Ensures that appropriate referrals and service coordination takes place
  • Delivers services in accordance with an existing outpatient or In-home therapy treatment plan

  • Cultural knowledge of key populations that will be served to address disparities in service delivery
  • Demonstrates skills for communication and interaction across cultures, including the ability to recognize and manage personal behaviors, moods, and impulses to create an inclusive, equitable, and welcoming climate within the agency
  • Knowledge of the various dimensions of diversity, including gender, race, and ethnicity
  • Acknowledging that people from other cultural groups may not share the same beliefs and practices or perceive experiences in the same way
  • Awareness of personal attitudes, beliefs, biases, and assumptions about others
