Reporting directly to a Juvenile Services Shift Supervisor, responsible for providing direct care supervision to youth in pre- and post-adjudication facilities using trauma-informed practices. Level I of II in Juvenile Supervision. This is a temporary/seasonal position, and is restricted to a maximum of 130 calendar days per year.
- Conducts and/or coordinates social casework activities
- All other duties as assigned
- The physical demands and environmental factors listed below, as well as regular attendance, are also essential functions for this position
- Supervises and redirects youth behavior using appropriate trauma-focused interventions when necessary
- Readily complies with departmental / countywide policies and Texas Juvenile Justice Department standards
- Oversees the daily activities of residents (i.e. education, physical education, group activities, hygiene, housekeeping chores, meals, visitations, etc.)
- Understands, practices, and promotes the vision of Williamson County Juvenile Services
- Performs intake, admission, and release of residents and completes all necessary paperwork
- Operates departmental and personal vehicles to transport residents as needed
- Maintains daily focus on the department’s service philosophy when interacting with youth, including emphasis on Developmental Assets, Developmental Relationships, SPARK identification, Motivational Interviewing, and Trust-Based Relational Intervention (TBRI)
- Completes all daily documentation reports, including youth behavior and progress reports
- Maintains a clean and safe living environment in designated facility

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Position involves operating motor vehicles
- Position involves using mechanical restraint devices (handcuffs and leg shackles)
- Position involves performing non-violent physical restraint
- Position involves prolonged standing, sitting, walking, reaching, twisting, pushing, pulling, kneeling, bending, and squatting
ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS
- Work is primarily conducted indoors in air-conditioned building
- Maximum security facility behind locked doors
- May be required to perform some work outdoors in inclement weather (heat, cold, wet conditions)
- Continuous contact with youth accused of or adjudicated for various crimes
IRREGULAR HOURS
- May be deemed essential personnel in the event of an emergency
- Essential personnel for emergency situations; discretion of department director
- Requires flexibility to work weekends, evenings, and/or weekend hours
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Not have a disqualifying criminal history as defined in Texas Administrative Code Chapter 344
- Be at least 21 years of age per Texas Administrative Code Section 344.200
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATION
Required within thirty (30) days of employment
- Valid driver's license
- Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certification
- Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certification
- Trust Based Relational Intervention (TBRI) trained
- Texas Juvenile Justice Department (TJJD) Juvenile Supervision Officer certification
- First aid certification
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- One (1) year of experience working with youth (i.e. teaching, counseling, coaching, mentoring, etc.)
- Bachelor's degree in a related field
