Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Temporary Research Assistant for the Department of Microbiology, Biochemistry and Molecular Genetics within the New Jersey Medical School. Under direction of Dr. Jason Yang, Principal Investigator, conduct computational and systems biology analyses of host or pathogen biological networks as they pertain to infectious diseases.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
  • Demonstrates good team spirit and communication skills.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • Assists the Principal Investigator with the preparation of grant applications and manuscripts.
  • Assists the Principal Investigator in written and formal presentations to industrial collaborators and funding agencies.
  • Performs computational analysis including, not limited to, network modeling, next-generation sequencing analysis, bioinformatic statistical testing, machine learning and other biomedical data analyses.
  • As required, assists in the implementation of the programs and projects in special areas of interest to the department.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant science.
  • Prior research experience in a science-related field.
  • Experience in microbiology, tissue culture, programming, machine learning, or biomedical data science.

  • Prolonged standing, walking and sitting, as well as use of laboratory equipment.
  • Hearing and speech capabilities necessary to communicate with other researchers and staff in person, on the telephone and by e-mail.
  • Team player with good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Occasional lifting of 20 pounds to a height of 6½ feet.
  • Perform complex procedures and demonstrate manual dexterity.
  • Some stooping, reaching, climbing and bending.
  • Vision capable of viewing gauges, computer monitors, charts, forms, text and numbers for prolonged periods.

  • Must be available to work flexible hours including weekends and holidays when necessary to meet deadlines.
