Job Description

SUMMARY:
In the Center for Research and Evaluation on Education and Human Services (CREEHS), the Research Associate collaborates with a small team within CREEHS to evaluate local and statewide initiatives related to public health, human services, and education. The Research Associate reports to a CREEHS Evaluation Associate and works up to 35 hours/week - Temporary position.
CREEHS
is a University-based research and evaluation center that provides independent and objective program evaluation, applied research, and program planning services to state and municipal agencies, school districts, colleges and universities, community organizations, and foundations to assist them in meeting their program improvement and accountability needs in the areas of education, public health, and human services. Since its inception in 2011, CREEHS’s goal has been to help our clients collect and use information in ways that improve their programs so that there are better outcomes for program stakeholders.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
  • Co-leading focus groups
  • Assisting with scheduling data collection events
  • Conduct a range of data collection tasks, including:
    • Drafting data collection instruments such as surveys, focus group and interview protocols, and revise with manager feedback
    • Loading surveys into Qualtrics, including entering survey items and testing for functionality
    • Recruiting participants for research and evaluation studies
    • Assisting with scheduling data collection events
    • Monitoring online surveys
    • Co-leading focus groups

  • Analyzing and summarizing qualitative data (e.g., focus groups, interviews, and observations)
  • Conduct a range of data management and analysis tasks, including:
    • Reviewing, cleaning, and organizing program data using data analysis software (e.g., Microsoft Excel, Google Sheets, SPSS)
    • Analyzing and summarizing quantitative data (e.g., surveys and program data), including generating tables and figures
    • Analyzing and summarizing qualitative data (e.g., focus groups, interviews, and observations)
  • Synthesize data and summarize findings
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Work with team members to coordinate multiple project components
  • Management retains the right to add or change job duties at any time
  • Assist revising applications to the MSU Institutional Review Board (IRB)
  • Contribute to evaluation reports and presentations
Qualifications:
Required:
  • Masters degree in a social science field AND minimum 2 years of professional experience in research for hire and/or program evaluation
  • Bachelor’s degree in a social science field AND minimum 4 years of professional experience in research for hire and/or program evaluation, OR
Preferred:
  • Proficiency managing and summarizing data in Excel and SPSS
  • Detail-oriented
  • Strengths both as a team player and a self-starter
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with a wide variety of participants in the Center’s work, including personnel in organizations and agencies inside and outside the university, as well as key stakeholders receiving or participating in the programs we support.
  • Quick learner, flexible, and willing to learn new ideas, content areas, and skills
  • Strong organizational and time management skills in order to prioritize multiple projects
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team and with diverse populations
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
