Job Description
The Princeton University Art Museum seeks an exceptional Curatorial Research Assistant for a part-time, temporary position in its Department of Collections and Exhibitions to assist with a range of responsibilities related to the research and planning for an exhibition and publication on Willem de Kooning. The exhibition is scheduled to debut in August 2025 at the Princeton University Art Museum, and may travel to one additional venue.

The Curatorial Research Assistant will work closely with the exhibition’s curator, John Elderfield, Chief Curator Emeritus of Painting and Sculpture at The Museum of Modern Art, New York; and formerly the Allen R. Adler, Class of 1967, Distinguished Curator and Lecturer at the Princeton University Art Museum.

The candidate must have superb research skills; a strong aptitude for written and interpersonal communication; and a willingness to work both independently and collaboratively. A PhD in art history or a related field is preferred. Knowledge of American art in the second half of the twentieth century is essential. Attention to detail is vital, as is the ability to meet scheduled deadlines. The position requires the ability to work diplomatically with external scholars, collectors, and partner institutions.

The anticipated duration of this position is one year with the possibility of extension.

Be advised that you will be contacted only if there is further interest in your application. Your candidate dashboard may not display status updates for this requisition.
