Job Description

Job Summary


The TAP Training Manager is responsible for managing, training, and developing teammates in the Technician Apprentice Program to within a Non-Structural Technician skill range in auto collision repair, capable of working on their own upon program graduation.

Essential Job Duties

Administrative

  • Conduct timely skills assessments for all trainees at specified intervals and enter into tracking system
  • Obtain student training materials and facilitate student use of program laptop computer/tablet as needed
  • Maintain own advanced training and certifications e.g. A/C Section 609, welding, structural measuring, I-CAR, etc.
  • Monitor and report weekly production/flag hours of the trainee team and increase production goals as appropriate
  • Participate in scheduled remote team meetings to discuss student progress and program needs
  • Participate in developing and updating program curriculum to include new technologies and repair techniques
  • Graduate and/or promote students who have achieved all required skills or remove/drop students who fail to progress or lack the appropriate attitude and work ethic
  • Maintain training records for the purpose of reporting student progress to college affiliations and military requirements

Shop / Hands-On

  • Deliver and manage all instructional and hands-on training in collision repair to participants in TAP
  • Direct and supervise daily activities of 3C; students simultaneously, prioritize tasks, and assign all jobs and learning assignments throughout each workday
  • Maintain hub facilitys student toolkits by supervising daily inventories at close of business and assist with processing warranty claims or tool replacements
  • Follow established program curriculum/skills assessment benchmarks to promote consistency throughout the program
  • Perform other related duties to ensure quality and timely completion of repair jobs and further student learning
  • Instruct students to read repair estimates/worksheets and prepare accurate and complete supplements
  • Train students in high-quality repairs utilizing OEM and industry-approved guidelines and Calibers SOQ
  • Maintain the TAP Hub production area by directing students to clean/organize as needed and report safety hazards or required repairs to the facility manager immediately
  • Engage students daily as individuals and as a team; identify successes and achievements and recognize opportunities, address, and solve them to ensure all teammates feel equally valued and included
  • Demonstrate and maintain proper use of PPE and other safety equipment. Perform weekly inspections of personal and student PPE and repair or replace as needed.
  • Dispatch repair jobs to students according to skillset and supervise work quality and production for every repair to ensure low return rate

Skills/Requirements

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required

  • Ability to effectively train students in a patient, caring, positive, and upbeat manner. Be approachable
  • Must be able to perform repairs using Brazing/MIG welding, STRSW (spot) welding, stud welding, and panel bonding
  • Must have a proven track record of high-efficiency production with a consistently low return rate
  • Ability to work efficiently and meet deadlines for production repairs and program documentation and reporting
  • Ability to meet outcomes with minimal or no direct daily supervision
  • Ability to replace weld-on panels such as radiator supports, outer door panels, rear body panels, quarter panels, etc.
  • Ability to use sheet metal and frame repair equipment and electronic multi-point measuring systems to restore vehicle structural dimensions, including how to read/explain damage and final measurement reports.
  • Must have a valid drivers license and be eligible for coverage under Calibers insurance policy (Not an excluded driver)
  • Ability to recognize student concerns or training difficulties and modify training techniques to accommodate them
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must have a documented history of performing high-quality repairs to above-industry standard using approved techniques and required corrosion protections
  • Must have at least 5 years of prior experience as a collision repair technician
  • Must be detail-oriented and possess above-average organizational skills with an ability to multi-task
  • Ability to operate a computer for related activities e.g. researching repair procedures, documenting student progress, online learning, etc.
  • Must have a commitment to excellence and create a positive training experience for each individual
  • Understands how to obtain and follow OEM or other industry-approved repair procedures
  • Strong interpersonal and communications skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of personalities and collaborate as needed
  • Comply with all safety requirements, respirator safety, and fitment/usage. Maintain compliance to pass required safety mask fit test
