Job Summary:
Lynxnet is hiring a remote Technical Writer to support the FORCECOM program based out of Elizabeth City, NC.
Job Responsibilities:
- Researches, writes, edits and proofreads technical data for use in documents or sections of documents such as manuals, procedures and specifications.
- Creates or revises hardware or software product documentation, which includes installation, operation and maintenance instructions and other technical publications such as technical advisories and release notes. Performs work under minimal supervision.
- The writer shall have an in-depth understanding of writing styles for operational procedures, instructional manuals, and student guides, preferably for military operations.
- Handles complex issues and problems, and refers only the most complex issues to higher-level staff.
- Ensures technical documentation is accurate, complete, meets editorial and government specifications and adheres to standards for quality, graphics, coverage, format and style.
- Performs final edits of publications, functional or system specifications, user’s manuals, special reports, or any other customer deliverables and documents.
- Organizes information required for signature-ready user's manuals, training materials, installation guides, proposals, and reports.
- Assists in establishing style guidelines and standards for texts and illustrations.
- Retrieves, organizes, analyzes and synthesizes subject matter and transforms it into easy-to-understand information.
\# Minimum Qualifications:
- Three (3) years professional technical writing/editing experience; to include experience in federal (civilian or military) organizations.
- Bachelor’s degree in English, engineering, business, the sciences or related concentration.
- At least 3 years of experience:
- Working with MS Word and proven ability to format large (>100 page) technical documents using authoring tools.
- Working with MS Power Point to develop slides.
- Implementing and managing Adobe Acrobat shared reviews with comments stored as XML files in collaborative workspaces.
- Working with a team of subject matter experts and collecting content knowledge on government or military operations.
- Incorporating reviewer’s comments into technical documents; preferably in Microsoft SharePoint collaborative work environment.
- Reviewing technical documents for final publishing quality and/or reviewing technical documents for concurrent review and approval at senior official/executive level.
- Driving innovation in multiple key areas, including terminology, editorial standards, and graphics standards.
