DIGITAL GRID (Smart Grid IT) Senior Project Manager

The DIGITAL GRID Project Manager is responsible for the successful delivery of an DIGITAL GRID delivery project from handover of the project from sales to the delivery team, through project execution stages, culminating in closure and eventual handover to the support team. This includes working with DIGITAL GRID team leads in assembling a project team and monitoring and controlling the project to ensure quality execution per the contract Scope of Work. In addition, the Sr. PM Plan, initiate, and manage information technology (IT) projects and mainly ADMS (Advanced Distribution Management System) projects with Electrical Utilities. Lead and guide the work of technical staff. Serve as liaison between business and technical aspects of projects. Plan project stages and assess business implications for each stage, monitor progress to assure deadlines, standards, and cost targets are met, and maintain the partner relationship between Schneider Electric and the client.
Responsibilities:
  • Supports the onboarding of SE project team members onto the SE project delivery team and coordinates the onboarding of team members for client site access and/or system access
  • Engages SE Contract Management through all stages of the project for advice on protecting program/project margin while identifying and exploiting opportunities to increase margin
  • Schedule and facilitate meetings related to information technology projects.
  • Ensures that the Customer Project is closed per DIGITAL GRID PMO project closure procedures, that all deliverables are accepted and that acceptance documentation is complete
  • Reviews & dispositions changes & claims
  • Reports to DIGITAL GRID executive leadership on the status and health of the project, its risks, opportunities, as well as overall client satisfaction
  • Identifies opportunities for improving project margin and/or providing additional services and software to the client
  • Assess current or future customer needs and priorities by communicating directly with customers, conducting surveys, or other methods.
  • Monitors quality and customer satisfaction
  • Negotiate with project stakeholders or suppliers to obtain resources or materials.
  • Ensures correct booking of project in SE financial management systems and sets project start date
  • Manages project execution through all stages of the SE Customer Project Process (Initiate and Setup, Design, Install and Commission and Closure)
  • Connects with client project sponsor(s) and checks in with them regularly on project status, risks, issues
  • Captures lessons learned in the course of delivering DIGITAL GRID projects
  • Responsible for the delivery of complex, multi-phase DIGITAL GRID projects (typically between $5m and $10m)
  • Monitor the performance of project team members, providing and documenting performance feedback.
  • Prepares monthly Project Review PowerPoint presentation and presents to DIGITAL GRID leadership as required
  • Offers suggestions on the development and/or improvement of DIGITAL GRID PMO processes and procedures
  • Identify need for initial or supplemental project resources.
  • Oversees the handover of the project from the sales team to the execution team
  • Establishes External & Internal Change Order Management procedures
  • Conducts internal project kick-off meetings covering business drivers, schedule, key contractual terms, penalties & bonuses, risks, issues, stakeholders and other project initiation items
  • Develop and manage work breakdown structure (WBS) of information technology projects.
  • Coordinate recruitment or selection of project personnel.
  • Develop and manage annual budgets for information technology projects.
  • Attends project/program steering committee meetings and other meetings with key stakeholders
  • Enables the integration of SE project delivery team with customer project team
  • Schedules and manages design activities including requirements clarification, high-level design and detailed design
  • Direct or coordinate activities of project personnel.
  • Provides backoffice (i.e. non-client-facing) financial tracking for projects in the DIGITAL GRID portfolio in support of a client-facing Program/Project Manager
  • Holds customers responsible for completion of their tasks per contract project schedule
  • Maintains a high-level knowledge of business processes, challenges, disruptions in the electric distribution industry, as well as the drivers and concerns around the deployment of Operations Technologies including DMS, SCADA, OMS, EMS. Maintains a general knowledge of other systems that make up utility systems such as GIS, MDM, CIS, Work Management, etc.
  • Confer with project personnel to identify and resolve problems.
  • Conducts effective scope management by assessing client requests against the agreed upon scope of work and negotiates change orders where there are variances
  • Establish and execute a project communication plan.
  • Procures products & services from subcontractors required for execution of the project and manages subcontractors in terms of contract, scope, schedule and deliverables
  • Builds and manages a cost and invoicing plan, including subcontractor invoices, that ensures positive cash flow and a high probability of achieving project finance KPI targets
  • Perform risk assessments to develop response strategies.
  • Identify, review, or select vendors or consultants to meet project needs.
  • Initiate, review, or approve modifications to project plans.
  • Informs customer in advance about end of warranty and procedures for handing over the system to maintenance and support
  • Manages the completion of project initiation documentation and project schedules including the Project Management Plan, Training Plan and Documentation Plan
  • Develop implementation plans that include analyses such as cost-benefit or return on investment (ROI).
  • Maintains project schedule, tasks, task assignments, issues and risks in Workfront
  • Assign duties, responsibilities, and spans of authority to project personnel.
  • Submit project deliverables, ensuring adherence to quality standards.
  • Identifies project stakeholders and strategizes approaches to stakeholder management
  • Maintains a log of project travel expenses and receipts per DIGITAL GRID PMO processes
  • Develop or update project plans for information technology projects including information such as project objectives, technologies, systems, information specifications, schedules, funding, and
  • Coordinates on-site work and ensures that the right team members are present for client site activities
Qualifications:
Skills and experience:
  • Demonstrated knowledge of electric utilities, especially in the area of IT/OT
  • Expertise in the use of MS Project, MS Excel, MS Powerpoint and other software tools used for project management
  • Enterprise resource planning ERP software or Workfront to plan resources
