Technical Director Of Engineering

We are currently seeking a Technical Director of Engineering for a role based in Chicago, United States.

You will be responsible for driving the growth and sucess of the company by leading and overseeing the technical aspects of the operations group.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Technical Problem Solving: Identify and address technical challenges within the operations group. Troubleshoot issues related to process engineering, equipment performance, and manufacturing efficiency. Implement effective solutions to enhance overall operational effectiveness
• Team Leadership: Provide strong leadership and guidance to the engineering team. Mentor and develop technical talent, foster a culture of learning and professional growth. Set clear goals, monitor progress, and drive results
• Process Scale-Up: Work closely with the Research and Development (R&D) team to design and carry out the production scale-up for upcoming material generations. Evaluate and pick more sophisticated machinery and technology to help us grow our manufacturing capacity
• Lead Process Engineering: Manage and coordinate all internal process engineering operations. Create and put into action methods to enhance the effectiveness and scalability of current processes
• Cross-functional Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including R&D, operations, quality control, and supply chain, to ensure seamless integration of processes, effective knowledge transfer, and alignment of technical strategies. Foster a collaborative and innovative environment
• Compliance and Safety: Ensure adherence to relevant regulations, standards, and safety protocols within the engineering and operations group. Champion a culture of safety, quality, and continuous improvement
• Performance Analysis and Optimization: Monitor and analyze process performance metrics to identify areas for improvement. Develop and implement strategies to optimize processes, reduce costs, and enhance product quality

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Scale-Up Experience: Candidates should have demonstrated experience in successfully scaling up processes multiple times throughout their career. This includes evaluating and selecting larger-scale equipment, overcoming technical challenges associated with scale-up, and ensuring smooth transitions during the expansion of manufacturing capabilities.
• Communication and Project Management: Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, are necessary to effectively communicate complex technical concepts and ideas. Strong project management and organizational skills are also required to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and manage multiple projects simultaneously
• Strong Process Engineering Background: Candidates must possess a strong background in process engineering, with a track record of successfully optimizing and scaling up processes in a manufacturing or industrial setting
• Battery Materials Experience (Ideal): Ideal candidates would have specific experience in battery materials. This could include knowledge of battery material synthesis, characterization, and manufacturing processes. Familiarity with the unique challenges and requirements of battery materials is highly valued.
• Battery Industry Knowledge (Preferred): Familiarity with the battery industry, including an understanding of battery technologies, trends, and market dynamics, is preferred.
• Leadership and Collaboration: Strong leadership skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders are crucial. Candidates should demonstrate the ability to inspire and motivate teams, as well as foster a culture of collaboration and innovation.
• Chemicals and Powder Handling Experience: Candidates should have experience in handling chemicals and powders, particularly in the context of manufacturing processes. Familiarity with best practices, safety protocols, and equipment related to chemicals and powder handling is highly desirable
• Problem-Solving and Analytical Skills: Candidates should possess excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to analyze complex technical challenges and develop innovative solutions. Strong attention to detail and a data-driven approach to decision-making are essential.
• Education: A bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field is required. An advanced degree in a relevant discipline is preferred but not mandatory.
