Nature Of Work
This position provides an opportunity for working in the City of Orlando’s Office of Sustainability and Resilience. The position will coordinate the progress of developing, implementing, and maintaining several projects related to Local Foods initiatives throughout the City of Orlando.
This position specifically will be responsible for assisting in the development of the new McQuigg Community Garden located within the West Orlando Promise Zone. This employee will also be responsible for developing marketing and educational materials in relation to the McQuigg Community Garden and working with the city’s communications department to schedule public outreach and education campaigns. The employee will assist residents in garden plant selection, installation, and long-term health of garden beds. The employee will be responsible for the upkeep and maintenance of the community garden area and ensure proper appearance of the area is maintained. This position will also oversee the Urban Tree Nursery at the McQuigg Community Garden providing insight on selection and acquisition of fruit trees necessary for the project. This employee will also be responsible for scheduling for up to 30 residents within the West Orlando Promise Zone to have a tree installed on their property. This employee will assist in the maintenance and production of the hydroponic shipping container located at the McQuigg Farm. This employee will assist in the creation of education programs specific to hydroponic farming and tailor the programs to the needs of students visiting the unit. Further duties include conducting background research to support new and ongoing projects, and track progress of existing projects. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Sustainability Project Manager, and is reviewed through direct observation, reports submitted, and results obtained.

Minimum Requirements
Associate degree (or in pursuit) in business administration, public policy, environmental science, sustainability, marketing, or a related field, and at least one year of experience in teaching environmental education, research, report drafting, business including budget analysis and development, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience is desirable. Valid Florida driver’s license is required.
