As the African American Postsecondary Pathway (AAPP) Program Coordinator you will report to the Special Assistant to the Superintendent for African American Achievement and Leadership and be a critical part of the SFUSD’s strategy to accelerate achievement and increase college and career access for African American students. You will support the district in realizing the goals of Vision 2025, ensuring that African American students and parents have access to academic and socioemotional programs and resources that will prepare them for life, work, and study beyond their secondary school years. We want someone who will commit themselves to deeply knowing the dreams of our students and families and serve as their chief advocate, providing a pathway to those dreams.


As the Student Success and Wellness Integration Specialist you will report to the Director of the African American Achievement and Leadership Initiative (AAALI) and work as district leader to identify, create, and promote wellness and leadership opportunities for our students within and outside of SFUSD sites. You will help to lead AAALI’s transformational work to deliver on the promises outlined in both Transform Learning. Transform Lives as well as our long-term, city-wide North Star, Vision 2025. We want someone who will commit themselves to deeply knowing the dreams of our students and families and serve as their chief advocate, providing a pathway to those dreams.


  • Work with school administrators, teachers, community-based organizations, parents and African American students to identify barriers to student wellness and achievement, available resources and gaps, and programming that is community responsive.
  • Develops school integration concepts according to guidelines by planning various aspects of the Student Success and Wellness program, including determining priorities, processing raw data, making written and oral presentations explaining the proposed school programming, such as student affinity spaces, mental health pilots, etc
  • Develop and support student affinity spaces and activities.
  • Evaluate and revise African American student support systems and build capacity of staff to follow systems that benefit students and families the most.
  • Assess school community needs and assets, and oversee integration of services and programming for students during regular school year
  • Work directly with the Student Success and Wellness Manager to provide a Mental Health expertise and perspective to (a) enhance school climate and (b) directly support sites with building, sustaining, and integrating service-delivery systems in collaboration with AAALI and community partners.
  • Develop a PK – 12 roadmap of existing school district and community-based organization programs and resources that support African American student leadership and overall wellness for our African American students and families
  • Assist with program evaluation (including data collection, analysis and reporting) in coordination with the AAALI Student and Success Program Manager

  • Develop and sustain partnerships with city and county services and non-profit agencies to provide support and opportunities to African American students and families that meet their identified needs.
  • Identify strategic new partnerships with the surrounding community.
  • Serve as a constructive partner and collaborator to school leadership, teachers and staff as they work to close the opportunity gap for African American students
  • Support programmatic direction and coordination to on-site SFUSD and community partners’ child and family support service personnel in alignment with the Schools academic and community goals.
  • Ensure thoughtful integration of support services, including family engagement and support, and health and mental health services.
  • Develop relationships with local community members, colleges, and businesses.


This is Permanent Exempt (PEX) appointment type. Permanent Exempt, Full Time not to exceed three (3) years. This position is excluded by the Charter from competitive Civil Service examination process and shall serve at the discretion of the appointing officer.


Minimum Qualifications


  • Completion of a four-year college or university with a baccalaureate degree
  • Three years of experience in one or more major student/family support areas, mental health, family support or leadership development


Desired Qualifications


  • Strong cross functional and interpersonal skills with peers, students, families and community partners
  • Experience with school-based service delivery.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience in coordination and/or management/administration in an educational, non-profit and/or human services setting.
  • Master’s degree in Education, Public Administration, Social Work, or related field.
  • Experience in collaboration, meeting facilitation, problem-solving and team building.
  • Ability to multi-task; skills to be a team player and self-starter.
  • Ability to work flexible hours (evenings, weekends).
  • Organizational skills; solid knowledge of Microsoft applications.
  • A high degree of cultural awareness and cultural humility

SFUSD offers a competitive salary of $81,930-$99,614 commensurate with experience in a similar position.
