The California AfterSchool Network (CAN) is a Collaborative Impact partner (fiscally sponsored project) of the Foundation for California Community Colleges (the Foundation). The Foundation, located in Sacramento, has served as fiscal sponsor to a number of educational, government and non-profit organizations. Incorporated in 1998, the Foundation serves as the official auxiliary to the California Community Colleges’ Board of Governors and the system-wide Chancellor’s Office. With a full-time staff of approximately 130, the Foundation is a fully professionalized organization with expertise to provide efficient back-office support to manage grants, contributions, and earned income.
In partnership with the Foundation, CAN is well-positioned to ensure children and youth benefit from high-quality out-of-school time learning and enrichment opportunities, resulting in positive developmental, academic, and wellness outcomes and increased readiness for college, career, and civic life.

Job Purpose:
Under the supervision of CAN’s Director, Equity & Quality, the Student Assistant provides administrative support to the CAN team. The Student Assistant will perform a variety of functions to support the activities of CAN including but not limited to scheduling and meeting supports, coordinating travel and event logistics, supporting with reporting and file coordination, and other general office operations.
Essential Job Duties / Responsibilities:
Scheduling & Meeting Support
- Support note-taking and meeting materials distribution as needed.
- Provide support to CAN team members to schedule virtual and in-person meetings.
- Provide other administrative support for committees and workgroups as needed.
- Manage the Executive Director calendar.
Travel/Event Logistics
- Support the coordination of travel arrangements for CAN team members.
- Assist with event and meeting preparation and logistics (e.g., participant correspondence, materials set up, invitations/RSVPs, meeting room arrangements, catering, AV requirements, etc.)
- Coordinate conference and meeting attendance for CAN team and CAN Leadership Team, including registration, lodging, and travel.
Reporting & Filing
- Work with CAN Staff to submit monthly expense reports as needed.
- Work with the CAN Management Team to submit necessary forms to CAN’s Collaborative Impact Partner such as Contracts Requests Forms and other administrative forms needed to initiative work processes.
- Work with the CAN team to Organize and maintain paper and electronic files/documents through web-based file management systems (i.e. Google Drive).
Other General Office Operations:
- Manage inventory of publications, office supplies, facilitation materials, etc. for CAN activities.
- Manage shipping and mailing services for the CAN team.
- Support with ordering supplies and materials needed for CAN activities.
Other duties as needed and assigned.

Education and Experience:
- Experience with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams etc.), Google Platforms (Drive, Docs, Slides, Jamboard, etc.), and Zoom/virtual meeting platforms.
- Demonstrated respect for and ability to work with diverse populations.
- Must be currently enrolled in an institution of higher education with a 2.0 GPA or higher.

Working Hours, Location, and Travel
This is a part-time position, 20 hours per week, with additional hours as needed to address the organization’s needs. This is a Sacramento-based position, with the flexibility to work remotely or in person at our Sacramento office. At times this position will be required to work in the Sacramento office to complete position responsibilities. This position may require minimal travel to attend meetings and perform other essential functions of the job.

- Ability to perform repetitive movements (e.g., typing and filing) and operate and use common office equipment (e.g., copy machine, printer, telephone).
- The person in this position frequently communicates with internal office staff and/or external third parties who have inquiries about their job tasks. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
- Ability to frequently move and/or remain in a stationary position without breaks during meetings.
- Must be able to remain in stationary position up to 4 hours at a time and 8 hours total in a day.
- Ability to constantly operate a computer.
- Ability to constantly work at a computer workstation for up to five consecutive days.
