Job Description

Position: Strategic Sourcing Supply Chain Manager


Location: Minneapolis, MN or Birmingham, Alabama


The Strategic Sourcing Supply Chain Manager will be tasked with identifying and qualifying new suppliers domestically and internationally to broaden the company sources of qualified products and mitigate risk to the supply chain. This will involve sourcing, negotiating contracts, auditing suppliers for compliance with agreed-upon standards, and continually improving the supply chain with alternate and complimentary suppliers.


This role is a leadership role and will manage + train other supply chain professionals.


The Strategic Sourcing Supply Chain Manager will be working with a wide mix of key components and systems including hydraulic, pneumatic, cylinder manufacturing, hoses, nozzles, quick disconnect couplings, air valves, air tanks, both liquid and powder coating, MRO products, hardware/fasteners, welding products and other products for custom manufacturing.


The individuals we are seeking for a suitable fit would have their Bachelor's degree, expertise in negotiating contracts with new suppliers within the technical segment and components previously mentioned, and create the commodity strategy for the organization, including machinery, equipment, tools and raw materials.


You will also have the responsibility to on-shore new suppliers to improve the domestic supplier base and mitigate risk with the global supply chain.


This is a critical role for the organization as they continue to grow and dominate their market. The role is open, due to someone retiring after multiple years of service with the organization.


Specific Responsibilities include:

  • Reviews proposals for price, delivery time and quality in order to select suppliers.
  • Approves qualified vendors and approves purchase orders.
  • Responsible for staffing. Personnel management including recruiting/hiring, supervision, disciplinary actions, performance appraisals and terminations. Prioritize staff workloads in order to meet product needs/objectives in all area. Develop and train staff to ensure high skill levels.
  • Researches and develops sources of supply for product specific commodities. Drive product specific commodity activities/initiatives and assure implementation.
  • Responsible for cost effective sourcing of supplies for product specific needs. Act as the single point of contact for assigned business unit. Align with Business Unit on product specific goals and priorities in regions. Drive continuous improvement actions in cost, quality and logistics. Investigates all new developments relative to material and makes recommendations for cost reduction and improved quality levels. Develop timetables to ensure the availability of materials to support new product launch programs.
  • Responsible for identifying, and developing new suppliers domestically for specific products to include hydraulic, pneumatic, hydraulic cylinders, hoses, water conveyance products, nozzles, tanks, Air Valve, tires, chassis components, fasteners, coating technology, welding materials and other items for manufacturing the primary product segment.
  • Oversees the purchase of services and supplies necessary for the operation of a business unit including machinery, equipment, tools and raw materials. Ensures that statistical data is compiled and analyzed to determine the feasibility of buying products and establishing price objectives. Directs Buyers to compile information from periodicals, catalogs and other sources to keep informed on trends in pricing and manufacturing processes.
  • Commodity strategy Development and implementation
  • Ensures effective price/terms negotiation, selection and/or recommendation of suppliers, trend analysis, order follow up, and delivery verification.
