The Operations Excellence (OE) team are the captains of this rocketship growth and central to Flexport’s success - building the people, processes, and products needed for the future of Flexport. The team's mission is to make Flexport the best freight operator in the world. We define, build, and execute the strategy to improve operations, foster a culture of continuous improvement, shape the metrics that drive our customer experience and our performance, and we partner with our technology team to build the future operating system for global trade.


We are looking for rockstar operations leaders to reach the next orbit. As a Staff Operations Excellence Program Manager in our team, you will lead the highest-impact projects in the company. You will work on issues spanning from understanding what drives value for our customers to fixing operations problems at the root to setting the agenda for our engineering team. You will work on global projects spanning multiple teams and business units, and interact with stakeholders on all levels and across the whole company. In your role, you will design the work experience for Flexporters for the years to come.


You will


  • Act as a swat team in the operations organization, leading and implementing solutions for some of Flexport’s most complex problems by collaborating with stakeholders across Engineering / Technology, Data Science / Analytics, Operations, Procurement and Account management.
  • Quickly become a technical expert for the topics you own when required and develop product strategies consistent with key organizational goals and outcomes.
  • Take imperfect data and ambiguous situations and determine a path forward including clear data requirements. Drive insights from key data sets; identify business drivers; prioritize issues to be solved
  • Define the vision (product, tech and operational), build a plan, drive execution, manage senior stakeholders, removing roadblocks, and delivering sustainable results
  • Define and measure key metrics that drive success of the program.
  • Establish streamlined product requirements are easily understood by technical and non-technical audiences. Ensure that these product requirements are scalable for the complexity of Flexport’s operations.
  • Understand the technical architecture of the solution, analyze data to identify root causes of problems, and partner closely with engineers to resolve technical impediments
  • Look beyond symptoms; identify root causes; build scalable solutions
  • Provide transparent communication about program status, risks, and changes to key business stakeholders and executives (up to C-Level). This includes writing executive memos and other formal business documents, leading meetings with employees of all levels.
  • Use Operations Management, Lean Six Sigma, Continuous Improvement concepts to ensure product requirements drive Flexport’s business improvement.


You bring:


  • The ability to lead and motivate a team of highly motivated, high performing individuals
  • MBA or Technical Master’s Degree with 8+ years’ related experience OR;
  • Ability to travel (30% of the time)
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Supply Chain operations or other technical discipline with 10+ years’ related experience
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Program management skills and experience in working closely with engineering / technology teams (set goals, manage delivery, create and measure impact)
  • Related experience in the following disciplines: Technical Program Management, Operations Management, Product Management or Business / Supply Chain Consulting
  • Experience in process design and optimization, lean six sigma, continuous improvement concepts highly preferred
  • Strong analytical skills, ability to handle data effectively; system-oriented thinking and end-to-end view of processes. Ability to define metrics. Strong knowledge of SQL.
  • Self-starter, tolerance for ambiguity, willingness to go the extra mile
  • Ability to build strong relationships and to influence without authority, and the ability to work with all levels in the organization to initiate and drive change
  • Strategic vision coupled with ground floor execution; energy, grit, and a little stubbornness to ensure the rubber actually hits the road

The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across all US locations. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range displayed, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education and / or training.


The US base salary range for this full-time position: (exclusive of bonus, equity and benefits.)


$140,000 - $175,000 USD per year
