The Safeway Supply Chain Dept. has an opening for a Senior Human Resources Manager. This position is located in Denver, Colorado and supports the Denver Division Supply Chain.


Position Purpose:


Leads the Human Resources team to support assigned business units, which may include up to three facilities. Grows and develops business partnerships across the organization, including employee relations, recruiting, staffing & retention, training and compensation & benefits. The Sr. HR Manager also provides counsel and advice to internal customers to help promote our company strategy and achieve desired results and reduce legal risk to the organization.


Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:


  • Participates in business strategy process by ensuring HR strategies are included in operations plans, aligning HR programs and practices with specific business objectives and ensuring diversity progress in all aspects of business.
  • Ensures effective communication to the associates on corporate policies and practices.
  • Oversees performance management processes.
  • Partners with Legal team to ensure strict compliance to employment laws and for guidance on legal matters.
  • Serves as liaison between associates, management and all other HR functions (payroll, benefits, compensation).
  • Handles complex and/or sophisticated Human Resources matters or projects.
  • Partners with Labor Relations and Operations Management for union contract negotiations and interpretation of labor contracts.
  • Provides internal consulting and services to Management and Staff in multiple locations to drive organizational change by assessing company culture.
  • Supports the succession and career planning process by assessing current leadership depth issues, facilitates talent reviews, develops internal candidates for key positions, assesses leaders for potential and readiness for promotion, recommends training and development needs, and provides career counseling and support to individual development planning.
  • Provides compensation guidance to management.
  • Develops, coaches and leads direct reports (HR team).


Qualifications:


  • Strong change management skills and experience
  • Proven planning, organizing, and leadership skills
  • Current PHR or SPHR preferred
  • Able to maintain effective business relationships within all areas of the company and the ability to influence and lead all levels of associates
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field, or equivalent experience
  • Uses sound judgement in decision making & problem solving
  • Experience and passion for leading or supporting Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Belonging programs
  • Strong conflict management and interpersonal skills
  • Possesses analytical, assessment, program execution and facilitation skills
  • 5+ years of experience as an HR generalist or related role
  • 3 or more years of management experience
  • Able to motivate and work with and through others to achieve desired results


Physical Environment:


  • Incumbent may sit for long periods of time at desk or computer terminal.
  • Incumbent may use calculators, keyboards, telephone and other office equipment in the course of normal workday.
  • Most work is performed in a temperature-controlled office environment.
  • Workday is extremely fast paced; some evening and weekend work may be required.
