POSITION SUMMARY
Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation is adding a Sr Maintenance and Operations Technician to our team! This position will assist a Greenway crew leader with multiple duties related to the maintenance of greenways and trails. These duties could include equipment operation, demo of structures, tree work, hauling materials, mowing, erosion control, and carpentry tasks. The selected candidate will be a key member of our team in ensuring our parks remain premier venues for our community and visitors. This position will work daytime hours during the week and weekends only as needed based on business demands.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Equipment operations experience
- Class A CDL
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Operate skid steer, excavator, mowers, chainsaws, brush cutter, chipper, power washers, ATVs, and other equipment used in facility maintenance, landscaping, roadside maintenance, and right of way cleaning.
- May serve as a lead on a small work crew, community service workers, volunteers and/or part-timers
- Assist in manual labor such as block laying, pipe laying, fence repair, carpentry and other construction tasks
- Assist repair technicians in duties
- Clearing tunnels after floods of mud and debris
- May receive, sort, and package materials
- Haul materials in dump truck for projects and pull equipment on trailers
- Tree work, including pruning or removal of trees, hauling off debris or chipping on site
- Perform erosion control measures to slopes and ditches
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Experience: Minimum of two (2) years of experience related to area of assignment
Education: High School Diploma or equivalent
Combination of relevant experience and relevant education accepted?: N/A
Licenses/Certifications: Requires a valid North Carolina or South Carolina Driver’s License and County Driving Privileges; Depending on the area of assignment, may require a Class A or B CDL with one or more of the following endorsements, H(Hazardous Materials), N(Tank Vehicle), P (Passenger Transport), S (School Bus/Passenger Transport), T (Double/Triples), or X (Tanker and hazardous Materials).
Computer Skills: General knowledge of applicable computer programs
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge:
- Occupational hazards and necessary safety precautions applicable to safe operation of this equipment
- Safe work practices and hazards associated with work
- Use of the tools, equipment, supplies, and methods used in the maintenance activities
- Heavy equipment used in maintenance, grounds keeping, and construction
Skills:
- Heavy duty trucks, tractors, mowers and similar automotive equipment
- Filling out daily work sheets and other required forms
