Sr Director, Ecommerce

Shutterfly is seeking a highly motivated, strategic and action-oriented leader to own the revenue and the customer experience in one of our business lines, guiding every touchpoint our customers have with our brand to drive growth from acquisition to retention. This business is poised for growth – with an ambitious plan to double the business in the next three years. We are seeking an incredible leader to join the team and drive this growth.


You will be responsible for business performance, which you will achieve by defining the growth strategy and product roadmap across the business, to lead in our competitive market. You will own the strategic and tactical execution of customer acquisition and retention marketing, will develop and oversee high impact marketing campaigns, directing performance and brand, and leading Product Management team and the Customer Service teams. You will work closely with the engineering, and Operations leaders and the General Manager to grow this business,


As Sr Director of eCommerce, you will be highly visible and play a critical leadership role. You will have the opportunity and responsibility to help monitor and shape the performance of the business, taking on critical challenges and contributing to the overall strategy and success.


Reporting into a VP, your direct reports are leaders across Marketing, Product, Insight Analytics and Customer Service. This is a hands-on role as leader within a small, driven team, managing your team and executing against our business strategy. This position represents a unique opportunity for someone looking to own the full customer journey and have a key influential role at an innovative ecommerce company.


What You’ll Do Here


  • Drive strategic vision to create and implement targeted and brand & integrated marketing that drives revenue growth and builds brand identity.
  • Manage insight analytics, to ensure that the team draws actionable insights and remains on top of customer and market trends.
  • Drive customer success through supporting the development and execution of a customer service vision, including expert-driven support teams.
  • Take responsibility for site performance the end-to-end business technology , from customer-facing front end through fulfillment, WMS and OMS. Work with Product to lead and develop the product roadmap, in conjunction with the General Manager, Engineering and other business line leaders.
  • Lead and strengthen the marketing, product and communications teams, including performance marketing, brand-building, PR and communications, content creation, competitive and market intelligence, business strategy and planning.
  • Take responsibility for strategic direction, enhancement, and revenue performance of business products and services, actively driving towards incremental revenue opportunities and long-term growth, achieving revenue and growth targets.
  • Innovate to identify impactful, economically-viable, and scalable new growth drivers.
  • Develop clear insights and learn quickly what is working and not working to lead the marketing team in optimizing and adapting to drive growth..
  • Provide hands-on leadership, coaching and/or direction to your teams.


What You’ll Bring


  • Solid understanding of retail, ecommerce, and brand portfolio management required.
  • Strong ability to analyze results of programs or research and derive actionable insights.
  • Success in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment with ill-defined problems, such as a technology-enabled start-up, required.
  • 12+ years of progressive leadership experience in marketing and product, with specific experience in consumer-driven brand marketing, product management, digital / ecommerce marketing, and channel development desired.
  • Proven track record in developing brand through integrated marketing plans in a highly competitive market space with experience / familiarity across display, paid search, organic, email, and social channels.
  • MBA preferred.
  • Direct experience managing or working directly with Product or website / user experience to improve conversion and customer experience.
  • Proactive, energetic, self-starter looking to have a significant impact on business success.
  • Experience working in a sustainable business strongly desired.
  • Balanced leadership style, a high level of intellectual agility and capacity for original thoughts, the ability to set a clear vision, and the willingness to be hands-on and lead by example, leading, coaching and developing teams.
