HOW YOU WILL DO IT
Key Global Market Development leadership position responsible for creating, managing and executing the strategy for new business acquisition. The Senior Director - Business Development leads the sector’s business development team to execute the strategy and meet sector revenue goals. The Senior Director - Business Development leads account targeting, qualifying, negotiating, selling, closing, and reporting for new business acquisition. The Senior Director - Business Development is also responsible for management, training and development of the business development team. This position functions in tight cooperation with the Customer Management team.

Key Job Accountabilities:
  • Learn and develop mastery of Plexus's sales enablement methodology.
  • Lead the market development team to win accounts that fit the Plexus strategy and “Customer of Choice” criteria. Develop, maintain and manage a target list of qualified new accounts for each Business Development Director. Lead the team to create account strategies which provide value and differentiation to customers. Oversee development of solution proposals for new accounts, including P&L reviews, presentation and selling to customer and negotiating. Ensure well-developed solution proposals are presented to the MSVP for approval.
  • Provide guidance and leadership to the sector team and to other areas of the organization that interact with the sector management (i.e. costing, finance, sites, operation management, material, regions) in order to achieve the sector goals and PLXS enduring goals. Communicate clear objectives within and outside of the sector business development team to ensure expectations and accountabilities are understood. Establish a consistent operating rhythm to normalize collaboration and help achieve sector goals.
  • Provide guidance and set goals for the sector market development team and contribute to broader goal development for the entire market sector. Hold the team accountable for meeting goals. Ensure the revenue goals for PLXS-MFG Solutions and PLXS-ENG Solutions are met or exceeded on all aspects of the Plexus value stream from Engineering Solutions (conceptualization) through After Market Solutions.
  • Play an active role in Plexus’s annual strategy process by voicing the needs of customers and their end-markets. Use market sector knowledge and research to help create and maintain a sector strategy. Communicate the market sector strategy and the overall Plexus strategy as it relates to market development to the extended sector team including supply chain, engineering and manufacturing solutions, After-Market Services, costing and finance.
  • Develop a strong and capable market sector team that functions as a unit, enabling revenue growth and financial performance that meets or exceeds established annual targets. Hold the staff accountable for results. Provide to direct reports regular, candid feedback which includes both formal and informal performance evaluation, mentoring, personal and career development and career mapping. Grow talent and develop successors/new leaders for the Company.
  • Accountable to execute on Plexus’ Best People strategy, leaders will focus on evaluating potential, driving succession planning and ensuring that their employees receive the development and coaching required to realize their full potential.
Additional Accountabilities:
  • Provide to the executive team, sales force, customer management and functional areas appropriate training on industry status and future trends, services that we offer and use of marketing tools.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of current and potential customers in the market sector. Working knowledge may include products, markets, key people, funding, revenue, competition, and future manufacturing strategy. Work with the market sector team to identify risks and opportunities for Plexus in order to prioritize and inform market development efforts.
  • Provide to the senior executive team (on a monthly or as required basis) a market sector recap.
  • Provide leadership when working with the Market Development - Branding organization to ensure presentations, collateral, advertisements, trade show involvement, website, etc. accurately reflect the value-add solutions that Plexus provides to the sector.
  • Responsible for financial forecasting for the sector's Market Development function.
  • Frequent travel may be required to meet the needs of the business (estimated 25-50%).
  • Participate actively, as a leader and representative of Plexus, in the appropriate market sector conferences and associations that shape, inform, and report on the market sector.
  • Develop and track individual selling strategies for key targeted customers. Participate (solely or jointly) in strategically selling to the executive levels at these key targeted customers. Ensure executive selling relationships exist and are maintained and leveraged.
  • Additional duties as assigned.
Education/Experience Qualifications:
  • Individual’s experience should exhibit increasing leadership responsibility involving strategy development and deployment, business development leadership and strong team-based selling skills.
  • Results-driven with demonstrated success in executive level selling and marketing.
  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Business or Engineering is required; an MBA or similar post graduate degree is preferred.
  • Required experience must include demonstrated customer-facing experience at the strategic level, understanding of the EMS industry and experience developing cost models.
  • Ten (10) years of related experience is required; Five (5) or more years of related experience is preferred.
An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the key job accountabilities may be considered.

Other Qualifications:
  • Quantitative analysis ability, attention to detail, time management skills, and organizational skills.
  • Expertise in EMS and the specific market sector, including technical, technological and business concepts (including finance and cost models).
  • Understand and be capable of effectively communicating the value of all of Plexus services: design, development, test, prototyping, manufacturing, supply chain solutions, and end market services.
  • Ability to influence others, including decision-making, conflict resolution and leadership competencies as defined by the company. Ability to lead without formal authority.
  • Ability to interact well in a cross-functional team and maintain the confidentiality of all customer and company information.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to effectively interact with and influence internal and external senior-level decision makers. Must have strong presentation skills and the ability to represent Plexus Corp. in a professional manner.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and in a team environment, and have the ability to follow through on assignments with little to no supervision.
  • General office equipment and materials.
  • The individual must possess a working knowledge of MS Office, including advanced computer skills in MS Excel and MS PowerPoint. Knowledge of the company CRM tool is expected.
Work Environment:
  • The work setting should consist of a manufacturing environment with suitable lighting, comfortable temperatures, and a moderate noise level.

The salary offered within this range will be based upon the geographic location, work experience, education, licensure requirements and/or skill level. Salary Range:$158,700.00 - $285,700.00
