Job Description

JOB SUMMARY

  • An experienced storyteller, the Sports Nightly Anchor/MMJ is tasked with all facets of managing the concept-to-broadcast sports newsgathering process, from asset assignment to nightly show debriefs.
  • The Sports Nightly Anchor/MMJ reports to the BCSN Market Manager.
  • From stacking a nightly 30-minute newscast to enterprising and producing feature storytelling for multi-platforms, the Sports Nightly Anchor/MMJ is a proven self-starter and team player who thrives in the high-energy, fast-paced culture of sports journalism.
  • The Sports Nightly Anchor/MMJ is responsible for all facets of sportscast production including writing, editing, and reporting for BCSN’s flagship nightly sportscast, as well as the regional sports network’s digital and social media platforms.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

The Sports Nightly Anchor/MMJ is accountable for the following functions for Buckeye Broadband:

  • Contributing to the Sports Nightly team that develops, produces and delivers the relevant broadcast, digital and/or social media assets required for linear television, digital and social media engagement including linear and digital platforms as well as Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, Instagram, Twitter, and Snapchat applications;
  • Using production and editing equipment to make skilled edits to show segments, creative videos, and in-house promotions for BCSN and Local Stations;
  • Contributing to the Sports Nightly team that ensures adherence to quality broadcast, digital and social media standards, deadlines, and proper procedures;
  • Performing any miscellaneous department duties as needed.
  • Maintaining an expert working knowledge of all production and postproduction resources including studios, cameras, lighting, audio, editing systems and graphic programs;
  • Using creativity to write and coordinate scripts and creative graphics for videos used for promotions and videos;
  • Following and enforcing the Company’s policies and procedures, including the EEO guidelines and safety, at all times;
  • Contributing to the production of various promotional materials created by the creative work group;
  • Participating in community outreach and promotional activities sponsored by the company;
  • Collaborating with the creative team to take projects from concept to final execution within established deadlines;

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Education and Experience

  • Experience with Newsroom Production Systems like ENPS or iNews – Required
  • Working Knowledge of Adobe Photoshop and codecs for web video – Preferred
  • 2 Years of experience producing, editing and feature story writing – Required
  • Bachelor degree in Communications or other relevant field - Preferred
  • 2 Years of experience working in sports/news environment – Required

Other Requirements

  • Background record that meets Company standards;
  • Understanding of the Buckeye brand as well as local client advertising and marketing needs;
  • Strictly maintains confidentiality of financial and/or other information acquired in the course of work; discloses only when authorized, unless legally obligated to do so.
  • Reliable means of transportation at all times;
  • Present professional appearance and demeanor;
  • Valid driver’s license and driving record that meets company standards at all times.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

May include walking, kneeling, standing, stooping, sitting, driving, hearing, talking, vision (close, distant, color, depth perception, adjust focus), and use of hands and fingers. Light lifting of 20 lbs. is occasionally needed.


WORKING CONDITIONS

  • The Company is a drug-free workplace. All employees are required to adhere to the Company’s drug-free workplace programs and policies. Pre-employment testing is mandatory along with random testing throughout continued employment.
  • The duties assigned, the hours worked, and the status of this position is subject to change as the needs of the company changes.
  • The Sports Nightly Anchor/MMJ is required to drive on the job as needed and is subject to regular MVR checks. He/she must maintain a valid driver’s license and maintain a driving record that meets Company standards for an insurable driver at all times. Any time these conditions are not met, he/she must not drive on the job and must immediately report it to their supervisor.
  • The Sports Nightly Anchor/MMJ works in a television newsgathering, newsroom, studio environment.
  • The Sports Nightly Anchor/MMJ is a full time, 3pm- 11pm, salaried/exempt position. The regular work may vary to accommodate the needs of the department and includes weekends and/or holidays.
