Job Description

The Foundling’s Development and Communications Department is looking for an exceptionally organized and mission-driven full-time Special Events Manager to join our 12-person team. This position reports to the Director of Individual and Corporate Giving and will be a key member of the Development and Communications team, responsible for all fundraising, marketing and communications functions within the organization. The Manager will successfully plan and execute all external events, including cultivation events and fundraising events for the organization. S/he will also be responsible for executing or supporting events with corporate groups, clients, and staff, working closely with the Development Coordinator and New York Foundling program staff. The Manager also oversees the work of The Foundling’s Junior Board, an engaged and passionate group of 60+ young professionals who dedicate time and resources to advancing The Foundling’s mission.


The candidate must be flexible and capable of thriving in a high-energy and fast-paced environment. S/he must be extremely well organized, attentive to detail, and possess an upbeat, positive outlook. To succeed, the applicant must be resourceful, solution-oriented, capable of thinking and working independently, and have excellent communications and technical skills.

Candidates should have experience conceptualizing and executing a wide range of events and working with committees or other stakeholder groups. S/he will work across departments to produce branded, consistent, and effective events for all Foundling stakeholders.


Responsibilities:

  • Develop close, productive relationships with key Board and Junior Board members, donors, corporate supporters and Foundling staff.
  • Manage and oversee data entry and reporting for events, including attendee information, registration status, payment processing, and follow-up.
  • Work closely with other New York Foundling staff to advise on event requirements, confirm deliverables, and make appropriate recommendations for event design.
  • Act as the lead coordinator for two major annual fundraising events, high-end donor cultivation events, major program-related events, and support the execution of internal events for staff and clients.
  • Responsible for all aspects of special event production, including but not limited to site identification, event format/design, board and donor relations, corporate solicitations and follow-up, auction oversight, and development and maintenance of event budgets.
  • Carry out other projects as necessary.
  • Act as the primary staff liaison for the Foundling’s Junior Board, including coordination and planning of meetings, social/networking events, group volunteering, fundraising campaigns, and the management and execution of the Junior Board’s annual fundraising event, The Blue Party.


Requirements:

  • Enjoy meeting new people, face-to-face and over the phone.
  • Strong relationship-building and interpersonal skills.
  • Intellectual curiosity and ability to think outside of the box to efficiently solve problems.
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities, demonstrate a high degree of initiative, work independently and adhere to deadlines.
  • Experience with Raiser’s Edge or similar fundraising database a plus.
  • Proficiency in MS PowerPoint, Excel, Word, and data processing.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as a member of a team.
  • Impeccable attention to detail.
  • Ability to anticipate and satisfy internal (staff) and external (donor) needs.
  • Polished, professional and comfortable liaising with donors and other VIPs.
  • Enthusiastic, self-motivated and committed to raising awareness and funds for The Foundling.
  • Minimum of 3 years event planning experience, including events of various types and sizes
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • BA/BS degree required.


Salary Range: $63,000-$75,000.
