Position Title: Special Events Manager
Reports to: Executive Director
Position: Full-Time, Exempt
Location: NYC
Salary: $55,000-$65,000

Established in 1987, the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) is a voluntary health organization that gives those affected by suicide a nationwide community empowered by research, education and advocacy to take action against this leading cause of death.
AFSP is dedicated to saving lives and bringing hope to those affected by suicide, including those who have experienced a loss. AFSP creates a culture that’s smart about mental health by engaging in the following core strategies:
- Funding scientific research
- Advocating for public policies in mental health and suicide prevention
- Educating the public about mental health and suicide prevention
- Supporting survivors of suicide loss and those affected by suicide
Position Summary:
Responsible for implementing AFSP fundraising events and revenue generating initiatives within the assigned market.
Responsibilities:
- Work with appropriate national staff on corporate, foundation, and grant fundraising.
- Develop budgets for all walk and non-walk fundraising events.
- Work with event related vendors, municipalities, and venues.
- Assist Programs Manager with planning and implementing Program events.
- Implement all other approved chapter fundraising events and revenue generating events and initiatives.
- Plan, manage, and implement AFSP’s signature fundraising events, the Out of the Darkness Community Walks and Campus Walks, within the assigned market.
- Responsible for recruiting, training, and managing all walk and other fundraising event committees and day-of event volunteers.
- Other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
- Responsible for securing sponsorships for all event fundraising.
- Growth expected is a minimum 20% increase in fundraising each year.
Requirements:
- Strong interpersonal and communications skills required
- Bachelor’s Degree preferred
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in nonprofit special event fundraising
- Highly organized and detail oriented
Benefits:
AFSP offers a competitive compensation and benefits package. Salary range for this role is $55,000-$65,000.
