Posting Summary


The Department of Spanish and Portuguese at Rutgers University invites applications for a one-year non tenure-track position as Spanish Language Program Director, with possibilities of renewal. The position dates will be Sept. 1, 2023 to June 30, 2024, with an additional part-time appointment in August for some tasks done before the start of the semester. The responsibilities include directing curricular, administrative, and staffing matters related to our well-established Spanish language program. The successful candidate will coordinate second language Spanish courses and will have a 2-2 teaching load. Teaching duties may include teaching Spanish language courses and undergraduate-level courses in the applicants’ area of research.


The Department of Spanish and Portuguese offers a Spanish major and minor, a Master of Arts in Teaching, a Master of Arts in Translation and Interpretation, a Ph.D. in Second Language Acquisition and Bilingualism, and a Ph.D. in Latin American, Iberian, and Luso-Afro-Brazilian Literatures and Cultures. The successful candidate will be expected to carry out the department’s commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion.


The qualifications are: (1) Ph.D. in Spanish by September 1, 2023 (Ph.D. preferred but ABD candidates will also be considered); (2) experience coordinating language programs or supervising language courses; (3) experience teaching online and in-person Spanish language courses; and (4) native or near-native proficiency in Spanish and English.
