Job Description
THE POSITION

The Department of Labor & Industry is seeking a dedicated professional to join their team as a Social Worker 2! Social Workers for the Office of Vocational Rehabilitation, Bureau of Blindness and Visual Services (BBVS) works with individuals (children/youth/adults) who are blind, visually impaired and deaf-blind in the Philadelphia area. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Social Worker 2 you will provide counseling, including vocational counseling, information, referral, and advocacy to students with disabilities to enhance their successful transition from school to services provided by the Office of Vocational Rehabilitation and eventual employment. This position also Investigates student service needs by gathering and evaluating information available on the student’s current education levels, physical condition, age, disability severity, aptitudes, interests, abilities, and other factors that will be relevant to their successful transition from school to employment.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
  • Full-time employment.
  • Telework: You will have the opportunity to work from home (telework), part-time after completion of probationary period. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Philadelphia.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

  • Work hours are 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, Monday - Friday, with a 60-minute lunch.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
  • Two years of experience as a Social Worker 1 or Forensic Social Worker 1 (commonwealth titles) (must have been employed in a commonwealth social worker job title on September 8, 2008, with continuous commonwealth employment); or
  • A master's degree in social work or social welfare.
  • Two years of experience as a Social Worker 1 or a Forensic Social Worker 1 and a bachelor’s degree in social work or social welfare; or
  • Two years of professional experience providing direct public or private social work services, and a bachelor’s degree in social work or social welfare; or

Other Requirements:

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Legal Requirements:
  • This position falls under the provisions of the Child Protective Services Law.
  • Under the Law, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports including, but not limited to, PA State Police clearance, PA Child Abuse history clearance, and FBI Fingerprint clearance.
