The Department of Public Affairs and Marketing plans, manages, and implements strategic communications (such as news services, public relations, marketing, internal and external communications) for UC Davis Health. Communications are aimed at a wide range of key constituencies, such as the news media, UC administration, UC Davis faculty, staff, and students, government/regulatory leaders, external physicians, business leaders, patients and health care consumers, and the general public.

Responsibilities
The Social Media and Digital Specialist works under the direction of the Digital Communications Director and the Digital Communications Supervisor. Develops, implements, maintains, monitors, and measure social/digital content for UC Davis Health to elevate the brand of the organization locally, state-wide and nationally. This position works closely with all areas of the Public Affairs and Marketing team, as well as other departments’ staff and faculty throughout UC Davis Health, to promote and leverage news and information via social/digital media. The Social Media and Digital Specialist monitors and measures the efficacy of content, and works with other social media staff to continuously evolve content and content strategy to drive interest, interaction, and proliferation of connections across all audience segments and stakeholders. The Specialist works with other social media team members, management, and other staff to execute organizational communication strategies for highly visible programs. This position advises and trains others in social media best practices to advance communication goals for UC Davis Health.
Required Qualifications
  • Exceptional ability to always represent the department and the institution in a highly professional and appropriate manner. Interpersonal skills to foster positive working relationships in a high-stress, deadline-driven environment and communicate effectively with supervisor, other team members and internal clients
  • Experience making and delivering engaging presentations and conducting training
  • Demonstrated personal initiative and strong multi-tasking skills
  • Knowledge of and experience with social media monitoring and analytics tools, such as native reporting within social platforms; experience with Sprinklr or other enterprise-level social media management tool preferred
  • Experienced social media community manager with ability to identify and escalate issues, as necessary
  • Experience managing organic social media campaigns
  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing/Communication/Journalism or related field or equivalent work experience
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience and skills in writing, editing and storytelling to develop engaging and compelling content, including messages and visuals for digital consumption which embrace and adhere to an organization’s brand standards and communication style guidelines
  • General knowledge of digital audio and video recording equipment; experience operating equipment and experience with video and audio editing software; experience with live social broadcasting tools such as Facebook Live
  • Experience writing and managing blogs, including growing readership and SEO best practices
  • Strong knowledge of and experience with social media platforms/tools and an understanding of audience demographics and how they use these tools (e.g., Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube, TikTok, Reddit, Snapchat, blogs, wikis)
  • Project management skills and experience to meet deadlines, follow through on assignments, take direction, attend to and communicate about the details of any assignment, and juggle multiple competing priorities
  • Experience analyzing and reporting performance in various social media channels and tools and making necessary adjustments and optimize content to meet goals and objectives
  • Knowledge of emerging new media trends and user demographics and use the information to develop content tactics and strategies
  • Skills to manage customer service issues and coordinate responses to online questions, comments, and criticism in a timely manner
  • Experience and skills to produce high quality, engaging, and visually interesting still photos and video images and videography for a variety of communications. Photo editing skills and ability. Skills and ability to use video editing software
  • Experience creating and working with content/editorial calendars
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience executing and managing results-driven paid social media campaigns
Special Requirements
Must be able to work occasional overtime/flex schedule (evenings/weekends) to meet operational needs. Occasional travel to attend meetings and conferences.
Must be able to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven work environment with competing priorities and demands
