Job Description

The Orange County / Inland Empire Small Business Development Center Network is a federal program partially funded by the U.S. Small Business Administration & the California Governor’s Office of Business & Economic Development. The SBDC is hosted by CSU, Fullerton. The purpose of this grant is to provide no-cost technical assistance to entrepreneurs and small business owners in Orange County. The SBDC is seeking applications for a Small Business Consultant.
The CSUF SBDC is seeking a highly qualified Small Business Consultant, specializing in the service industry, to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a bachelor’s degree in a business-related field or equivalent experience in business management or financial analysis. A current or past small business owner with experience owning one or more service-based business locations is a must. The candidate should also have a key understanding of small business issues related to the service industry, extensive knowledge in the ins and outs of day-to-day operations, employee management, staff operations, budget analysis, pricing models, inventory control, and lease negotiations.
  • Please be aware that funding for this position is awarded through a Grant/Contract over a specified period. Employment for this position beyond current Grant/Contract funding is contingent upon continued funding or new Grant/Contract.

Essential Duties

  • Advise and work with small businesses on a variety of topics related to day-to-day operations, employee management, staff operations, budget analysis, pricing models, inventory control, and lease negotiations.
  • Provide guidance and support to small business owners in the service industry to improve their operations, increase profitability, and grow their business.
  • Conduct business assessments and identify areas of improvement for clients.
  • Communicate effectively in both oral and written form to establish and maintain effective and harmonious work relations with staff, clients, business resources, and the general public.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Use computer skills and working knowledge of various software packages to analyze and report on small business operations.
  • Analyze budgets and pricing models.
  • Deliver business presentations on various topics in a public setting to diverse audiences.
  • Develop programs to assist small businesses in achieving success.

Qualifications

  • Bilingual - Fluency in Spanish and/or Vietnamese is a desired qualification of this job.
  • Must be a current or past small business owner.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.
  • Key understanding of small business issues related to the service industry.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective and harmonious work relations with staff, clients, government agency(s), business resources, and the general public.
  • Experience in delivering business presentations on a variety of topics in a public setting to diverse audience.
  • Experience in advising small businesses.
  • Computer skills with working knowledge of various software packages are necessary.
  • Extensive knowledge in the ins and outs of day-to-day operations, employee management, staff operations, budget analysis, pricing models, inventory control, and lease negotiations.
EDUCATION:
  • Bachelor's degree in a business-related field is preferred; or equivalent experience in business management; or equivalent experience in financial analysis; or bachelor’s degree in any field with either two years of business management or business ownership

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Lifting of up to 25lbs.; periodic bending; long-term periods of sitting; long term periods operating a computer.
