Job Description
The Role, At a Glance
The Shipping Supervisor is responsible for all domestic and international shipping logistic activities associated with the preparation and shipment of component and final equipment orders. This person will coach and motivate employees to achieve desired delivery schedules, improve efficiency and to meet company quality and cost standards.
How You'll Contribute
  • Recommend and implement improvements to equipment and methods for long-range planning, while adhering to cost control and budget requirements.
  • Oversee inventory controls of on/off-site facilities to ensure proper inventory levels are maintained using inventory management methods (FIFO).
  • Responsible for scheduling work assignments, training, and overall performance management of individuals within the department and ensure safety.
  • Coordinate shipping assignments with carriers and internal business units and ensure shipments are prepared on a timely basis to support delivery schedules. Monitor work in process and make adjustments as needed.
  • Provide for a continuity of operational improvements, by reviewing, evaluating and making recommendations concerning applicable, technological and operational development.
  • Maintain effective and up to date training for employees in regards to compliant shipping processes. Keep all procedures up to date as they relate the shipping and handling of components and products.
  • Effectively schedule job assignments, review and monitor work for key quality goals including customer satisfaction, continuous improvement, timeliness, accuracy, efficiency, cost savings, process and part quality.
  • Encourage employee involvement in developing effective methods for work improvement throughout the department.
  • Collaborates with internal, cross-functional teams to address quality, quantity and delivery problems, and practical solutions. Allow adequate time for customers to be notified of delayed shipments and provide appropriate follow-up.
  • Coordinate and consolidate incoming products from all departments with substantial emphasis placed on complete and on time shipments to satisfy company delivery objectives.
  • Responsible for the accomplishment of assigned team objectives through timely completion, effective communication, teamwork and technical assistance as needed.
  • Supervises Shipping team members in both tactical tasks and adaptive activities; ensures adherence to policies and procedures, drives innovative improvement and problem solving, coaches and develops team on career growth, goal setting, goal achievement and performance feedback.
  • Provide team members with the opportunity to meet on a regularly scheduled basis for brain-storming and problem identification sessions as a key element of communication for improvement.
A Successful Candidate Should Have
  • Demonstrates the ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, to a wide variety of organizational members.
  • Must be able to work 1st shift: Monday to Friday from 6:00am to 2:30pm.
  • Generally, requires a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or related field with approximately 3-5 years of progressive experience within logistics management and supervisor experience.
  • Forklift certified or must be able to obtain certification (offered onsite at Biamp) within 90 days of hire.
  • Working knowledge of WMS systems required; experience with RF-Smart a plus.
  • Knowledge of US Customs import and export regulations, classification systems, and duty drawbacks and disclosures.
  • Previous experience in high volume shipping and/or order fulfillment highly desired.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and carrier software applications (FedEx ShipMgr, UPS WorldShip).
  • Competency of domestic and international shipping methods (Tier I parcel and freight services across multiple carriers and freight forwarders).
  • Demonstrated leadership ability, including supervision or project leadership, as well as the ability to effectively coordinate and lead cross-functional teams.
Work Environment
  • Ability to wear PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) as required in designated areas.
  • Stand or sit for long periods.
  • Visually observe, and differentiate, small moving parts.
  • Minimal travel (less than 5%)
  • Perform tasks (that may be repetitive) that require reaching, pushing, pulling, kneeling, walking, stooping and/or bending.
  • Warehouse and Manufacturing environment
  • Ability to lift 25 lbs. frequently and up to 100 lbs. periodically with assistance.
