Job Description
What to Expect
**This position can be based out of anywhere in the US as long as you’re close to a local service center; It does requires regular travel across the US and sometimes globally in support of other service centers, engineering teams, end of line and manufacturing factory operations.**


The Tactical Response Team quickly deploys to service centers, End of Line, factory operations, and various locations to handle large backlogs, help with high spikes in workloads, support repair and process improvements, and handle out of standard work in any department at Tesla.

The Tactical Response Technician is a self-starter and motivated individual. We are looking for individuals who excel with a wide variety of technical, process and people development skills. Communication is highly important. Excellent oral and written communication required. A strong will to become a leader through personal development and development of the team.


What You’ll Do
  • Performs diagnosis, and repair on electric power train systems, electrical systems, steering, suspension and even body work for Tesla Roadster, Model S, X, Y and 3.
  • Strong ability to collaborate and serve as a partner/consultant to regional leadership and staff.
  • Strong facilitation and interpersonal communication skills required.
  • Engage in technical training and coaching to the field by providing the latest diagnosis and repair product changes and information
  • Strives to perform master-level work in the inspection, repair, and service of Tesla electric vehicles.
  • Operation and maintenance of a wide variety of hand power tools, shop tools, and automotive and electrical test equipment.
  • Partner with Regional Service Managers and Service Managers to identify deficiencies and development needs within their region(s).
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
  • Experience and ability to generate field reports of a technical or operational nature, detailed daily record keeping and reporting
  • Performs work in the diagnosis, repair, and service of Tesla electric vehicles just manufactured in our Fremont factory, in the field at service centers, CONUS and OCONUS locations.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and demonstrated confidence and professionalism in working in a customer-facing role.
  • Responds to situations where service technicians, parts advisors, or service advisors has failed to isolate or fix an issue
  • Provides high-level technical field support to technicians who are diagnosing, troubleshooting, repairing, and troubleshooting our vehicles.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead complex problem-solving activities and initiatives.
  • Proactive, flexible, confident, professional, and self-directed in a fast-paced environment.
What You’ll Bring
  • Extensive experience using scan tools, following diagnostics and operating scopes/DVOM equipment
  • Able to organize and establish support with guidance from management. Support various special projects with clear attention to detail to meet timelines and achieve goals.
  • Has a clear understanding of technical requirements of a technician, parts advisor, service advisor and can perform those roles.
  • Ability to lead without authority in a team-based environment, set direction, and guide team members to achieve common goals, work as part of the team
  • Graduation from high school or equivalent and an Associate Degree in Automotive Technology from an accredited institution or equivalent experience preferred
  • Regular travel required to support up to 75% of the year, monitor and report region specific Service locations needs.
  • Maintain and perform top-level professional integrity and appearance as an automotive technician
  • Able to travel 75% of the time
  • Hybrid experience a bonus
  • ASE certifications A1-A8, a plus.
  • Availability for off-hours calls and work.
  • 3 - 5 years of experience in engineering shop and/or dealer shop environment, 5+ years in the automotive industry preferred
  • Certification to repair A/C systems and handle refrigerant
  • Must be 21 or older
  • Capable of seamlessly integrating with multiple different teams on wide variety of different technical repairs and processes
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work, including the public
  • Valid driver’s license and insurance required
