Job Description
  • Acts as a liaison and represents the department in meetings with other departments, contractors, vendors and other agencies
  • Performs backups and other routine administration duties; analyzes software conflicts and hardware problems; provides support for modification and maintenance of specialized systems
  • Monitors assigned server, LAN/WAN, communication systems and operations, checks for error and warning messages and takes corrective actions
  • Installs, configures and maintains new and/or upgraded operating systems, applications, protocols, remote access, and network software and hardware
  • Designs, develops and maintains large-scale databases
  • Monitors, designs, installs, and documents LAN/WAN communication networks, including hardware, software, communication circuits and network infra-structure
  • Provides lead direction to assigned staff, sets priorities and follows up to ensure completion of work
  • Assists department users in evaluating strategic information technology options and identifying potential technology applications; designs and lays out large-scale, complex systems for installation
  • Resolves problems related to application software, operating system, hardware, router and switches, printing, and networks; refers major system problems to appropriate specialties
  • Provides input into employee evaluations and disciplinary action

  • Maintains knowledge of the field including learning new and existing software, applications, databases and hardware through formal, informal and on the job training, and self study
  • Adds users, assigns identification and access levels
  • May manage design, acquisition and installation projects and develop projected costs for information technology projects


Requirements


  • Basic lead supervisory techniques
  • Personal computer operating systems and applications
  • Network equipment operating systems
  • Techniques of project planning and management
  • Network, server, storage, telephony, LAN/WAN , router, and switch configuration and administration; application of OSI model
  • Secure remote access technology
  • Techniques for explaining technical concepts to non-technical users
  • Network security management systems
  • Techniques, equipment and diagnostic software used in the assembly, troubleshooting and repair of personal computers
  • Mobile device management
  • Network monitoring and alerting systems
  • Disaster recovery and backup/recovery systems
Skill in:


  • Planning, organizing, and evaluating the work of others
  • Diagnosing and resolving problems with servers, networks and interface systems
  • Installing, configuring, modifying and maintaining operating system, application, network, remote access, and specialized software
  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of the work
  • Assembling, installing, configuring, repairing and maintaining computer hardware
  • Providing training, assisting users in problem resolution, and explaining system and application use
Completion of two years of college-level work in information systems, computer science, or a closely related field. OR Completion of two years of college-level work in any subject and two years of technical work experience. OR Five years of directly related technical computer services work experience.


Level II (in addition to the above):


Two years experience performing work equivalent to Nevada County's classification of Network System Analyst I.
