FULL-TIME | Washington, D.C., San Francisco or New York City
Brilliant’s Research Team is growing! We are looking for an exceptional Senior UX Researcher who can help us to improve experiences and grow businesses by discovering insights about people and designing for how they think. We work with some of the world’s largest enterprises so your work will have the potential to impact millions of people.
To be successful in this role, you will need to have a wide breadth of experience in various qualitative research methodologies, a collaborative, team-oriented nature, and have strong client-facing communication skills. We seek people who are insatiably curious, deeply empathetic, collaborative, daring enough to entertain “foolish” ideas, and capable of building the kind of client trust that allows them to take a risk on our recommendations.
A note about location: This is a remote-friendly, work-from-home position. This role will require periodic on-site time in the Washington, D.C., San Francisco or New York city areas. You need to have the ability to travel outside of your home office as needed for research studies or occasional client meetings.
WHAT YOU’LL DO:
- Plan and expertly facilitate design workshops or sprints with our clients in order to gain alignment and develop new solutions.
- Support and lead efforts to articulate pain points and opportunities within existing customer experiences, and collaborate with relevant stakeholders to define and articulate new customer experiences that reflect a deep understanding of human behavior and service design.
- Contribute to our insights and innovation practices through writing/thought leadership, internal projects, and collaborating with peers.
- Occasionally participate in business development efforts as a UX Research or industry subject matter expert.
- Synthesize findings from research to understand unmet needs, frustrations, and behavioral motivations and translate those findings to relevant business and experience insights.
- Advocate for users while understanding the business goals of clients.
- Act as a project manager for smaller research efforts, including coordinating project activities, managing own and others' time as appropriate, reporting on activities to clients, and supporting and facilitating internal and external communication with client teams.
- Analyze research findings and prepare high-impact reports and presentations for clients.
- Meet with client stakeholders to help clarify research objectives and propose specific tools and approaches within a pre-defined scope of work.
- Design studies and conduct research using a variety of qualitative and quantitative methodologies, including in-depth interviews, usability studies, diary studies surveys, heuristic evaluations, contextual inquiries, surveys, unmoderated tests and competitive landscape analysis.
- Plan and execute lab-based, field-based, and remote research studies.
- Communicate complex ideas in a manner easy for others to grasp, including storytelling and presentation skills suitable for C-suite executives.
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR:
- Demonstrated ability to plan, design, and conduct a series of research mixed-method activities as outlined above as project lead.
- Keen understanding of a professional services environment that focuses on providing value for clients in balance with human centered innovation.
- Formal education (graduate degree preferred) in a relevant field such as human-centered design, human-computer interaction, cognitive psychology, information science or equivalent hands-on experience to demonstrate an understanding of usability research theory, methods, and practices.
- Excellent client management and interaction skills including guiding clients through the overall research process as a trusted advisor; ability to facilitate client meetings and collaborative working sessions.
- Team-oriented, energetic, innovative, and self-motivated people.
- An understanding of the balance between efficiency and rigor.
- A passion for and expertise in best practices in experience research.
- 5+ years of experience designing and conducting a range of UX research activities.
- Ability to thrive in ambiguity and passion for working your way through the puzzles clients give us.
- Strong moderation skills and knowledge of when to use the various research methodologies.
- Highly collaborative with strong verbal and written communication skills; proactive and not just a "fly on the wall" in meetings and work sessions.
- Ability to clearly articulate the connection from research to design and strategy decisions through storytelling and effective client presentations.
- At least 2 years leading research for clients.
- Willingness to dress up once in a while and meet our clients, with occasional travel.
- Experience planning and executing quantitative survey research is a plus.
- Experience conducting research with a variety of research tools such as Dscout, Dovetail, Qualtrics, Optimal Sort, User Testing, UserZoom.
- Experience in a research, design or innovation consultancy.
Due to client needs, you must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
Principles only. No staffing agencies, please.
HOW TO APPLY:
We would like to see examples of your past research work in your application. Your past research work can include academic research projects, internship projects, or industry work. Please attach your portfolio link and any other work samples you can share to help us understand your approach to UX research.
If your experience looks a little different from what we’ve identified and you think you can excel at the role, we’d love to learn more about you.
ABOUT BRILLIANT:
We believe that people need balance in their lives to achieve their full potential. To that end, we provide a highly-competitive salary, medical and dental insurance, a monthly cell phone stipend, annual paid training opportunities and unlimited vacation so you can take care of all the things that matter in your life.
