Position Summary

The goal of our lab is to move the field of intestinal biology in a manner that will ultimately improve care for those affected by Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD: Crohn’s and ulcerative colitis) and colon cancer. We study disease-relevant cell and organ signaling pathways using modern molecular biology, animal models (mice), human tissues, and organoids (mouse and human derived) with the goal of developing new therapeutic approaches to treat these diseases. This specific position will focus on studying how tryptophan metabolism regulates growth and therapeutic resistance the normal and neoplastic intestinal mucosa. The successful candidate will collaborate on designing, conducting and reporting of research projects which use animal (mouse) models, cancer and organoid cell lines, as well as human biospecimens will be used. Depending on the candidate’s goals, the PI will also further academic promotion.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assists with grant preparation and reporting. May submit grant proposals in rare circumstances with the approval of the PI, Department Head and Dean.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Prepares and submits papers on research.
  • Complies with established safety procedures and maintaining required documentation on laboratory and specimen conditions.
  • Manages research project with other institutions and investigators.
  • Develops hypotheses to be tested and ways of testing it.
  • Collaborates with the PI on the design, conduct and reporting of research projects.

Job Location/Working Conditions

  • The individual must be physically able to wear protective equipment and to provide standard care to research animals.
  • This position works in a laboratory environment with potential exposure to biological, chemical and radioactive hazards.

  • Ability to communicate in oral and written form with all levels of personnel and technical publications.

  • Demonstrated working knowledge of standard laboratory policies, procedures and equipment.

  • Analytical reasoning and problem-solving skills.

Required Qualifications

PhD, M.D. or equivalent terminal degree and at least three years of postdoctoral experience or a combination of education and experience equaling 12 years.

Salary Range

$62,200.00 - $112,700.00 / Annually

The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
