Job Summary
The Mid-US Research Office (MRO) enriches the intellectual activities of Harvard Business School (HBS) faculty and fortifies the connection between the Boston campus and the Mid-US region. Established in 2021, the office’s primary mission is to develop and extend relationships with business leaders and others across the Mid-US to contribute to the development of intellectual capital and programming at HBS. The Mid-US Research Office serves as a key source of new research and curriculum content on a wide range of fields, including finance; technology; marketing; accounting and control; strategy; and entrepreneurship; racial equity, diversity, and inclusion; climate change; digitization and digital transformation; and economic inequality.
Position Overview
Reporting to the Director of the Mid-US Research Office, the Senior Researcher will work closely with HBS faculty managing research projects, performing in-depth field and secondary source research and supporting other HBS-wide activities, including admissions, external and alumni relations. Travel in the Mid-US region will be required. Working in close collaboration with the Director of the Mid-US Research Office, the Senior Researcher will be responsible for developing case studies about companies in the Mid-US for the HBS MBA and Executive Education programs.
Position Description
The Senior Researcher will be responsible for:
- Gathering and synthesizing data from a variety of sources leveraging online resources, statistical and financial reports.
- Conducting on-site interviews with senior company and government officials alongside HBS faculty.
- Responsible for other duties as assigned.
- Supporting other HBS-wide activities, including admissions, alumni and external relations.
- Writing high-impact, well-documented and compelling case studies.
- Identifying potential case study subjects for proposal to the Director of the Mid-US Research Office and presenting case leads to HBS faculty.
- Maintaining and extending relationships within the candidate’s existing knowledge/country/sector networks which can contribute immediately to the development of intellectual capital at HBS.

Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required
- 4+ years of relevant work experience required
Additional Qualifications And Skills
- Candidate must demonstrate an ability to work independently while establishing strong, collaborative working relationships and take direction from a project leader to meet the highest standards of academic rigor.
- Experience of delivering a range of research outputs, including reports, articles, presentations and summaries is required.
- Strong knowledge of the Mid-US is required; work experience in the region preferred.
- Other desired skills include proven effectiveness in a consultative role and strong proficiency in developing contacts with academics and business leaders on behalf of an academic institution
- Excellent communication, analytical, and organizational skills required.
- MBA preferred (HBS strongly preferred), with outstanding academic record.
