We're hiring a Senior Information Architect for our Chief Data Office in Waltham, MA. This role can also be located in NY, NJ, NH, CT, RI, ME, VT, or PA

Job Purpose


As a Lead Information Architect, you'll be part of the Chief Data Office function. You'll play a critical role to deliver on Nationalgrid vision which is "To be at the heart of a clean, fair and affordable energy future". You'll work as part of a multi-disciplinary team of data and analytics leaders to develop and manage data solutions that can empower our business to make decisions from data to drive growth activities and bring efficiencies to our data processes and data maturity.

You'll play a pivotal role in operationalizing the most-urgent data and analytics initiatives for Nationalgrid digital business initiatives. You'll support and optimize data pipelines, manage large finance transformation programs, and support the customer initiatives.

This role presents an opportunity for someone with a passion for data modelling to work within our data interoperability team. It has several facets:

  • Provide direction on adoption of modern cloud technologies (i.e., Snowflake) and adopt industry best practices
  • Keen eye to deliver project deliverables that are concerned with architecture, security, and integration features
  • Ensure new features and subject areas are modelled to integrate with existing structures.
  • Planning, designing, developing, and maintaining the data architecture and standards for various Data Integration projects
  • Develop and maintain documentation of the data integration patterns, data flows, data standards, data architecture

What you'll do


  • Review the architectural/ technological solutions for ongoing projects and ensure the right choice of solution.
  • Deploy high-level design and architecture of the solution, including class, sequence, and deployment infrastructure diagrams.
  • Guarantee compliance with data governance and data security requirements while creating, improving, and operationalizing these integrated data approaches.
  • Demonstrate ownership of technical solutions from design and architecture perspective for numerous initiatives
  • Successfully deploy multiple completed complex technical projects.
  • Liaise with stakeholders in building trust in the data being used for decision making.
  • Gather end user requirements and writing technical documentation
  • Prepare architectural standards, guardrails, and best practices related to Data Integration / architecture. Consult about current / future industry trends and technology needs.
  • Design, implement, and document data architecture, which includes the use of relational, dimensional, and NoSQL databases.
  • Work closely with IT Domain and Business units to capture requirements, identify pain areas, and propose an ideal solution.

What you'll need


  • Creativity and collaboration skills
  • A bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, statistics, applied mathematics, data management, information systems, information science or a related quantitative field is required.
  • Good judgment, a sense of urgency, and demonstrated commitment to high standards of ethics, regulatory compliance, customer service, and business integrity.
  • Strong experience building, managing, and working with cross-functional teams in a dynamic business environment.
  • Accessibility and ability to interface with, and gain the respect of, stakeholders at all levels and roles within the company.
  • Deep experience managing and leading teams with varied skillsets including information architects, data architects, data modelers, and data engineers.
  • At least 10 years or more of work experience in data disciplines including data integration, model optimization, and/or other areas directly relevant to data management, and ideally 5 years of this experience working in cross-functional teams and collaborating with business stakeholders in utilities / Financial Services in support of a departmental and/or multi-departmental data management and analytics initiative.

Technical Skills


Knowledge of

  • Extensive knowledge of:

o Data platforms - Snowflake, Synapse, SQLServer, PostgreSQL, Databricks
o Data replication/CDC
o Message-oriented data movement
o API design and access
o Data virtualization
o Streaming data
o ETL / ELT Tools
o PowerBi

  • Good understanding of integrating SAP systems with Snowflake

Strong experience with:

  • End-to-end implementation of Data Lake technologies (i.e., Snowflake).
  • Data modelling, ELT and implementing complex stored Procedures.
  • Working with the business intelligence / analytics teams to gather requirements for the database design and model
  • Advanced concepts like setting up resource monitors, RBAC controls, virtual warehouse sizing, query performance tuning, Zero copy clone, time travel and understanding of how to use these features.
  • Relational as well as NoSQL data stores, methods, and approaches (star and snowflake, dimensional modelling and third normal form)
  • Demonstrable ability to troubleshoot problems across infrastructure, platform, and application domains. Controlling access to the data and the reports
  • Data security and data access controls and design
  • Providing resolution to an extensive range of complicated data pipeline related problems, proactively and as issues surface.
  • Data Migration from RDBMS or SAP systems to Snowflake cloud data warehouse.
  • Implementing Data security needs and implement security solutions
  • SoX, GDPR and Regulatory/CNI control environments

Salary
$133,000 - $156,000 a year
Please be advised that due to the nature of this position, incumbents are subject to federal Drug & Alcohol safety regulations governing US Department of Transportation ("DOT") covered positions, including the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) and Pipeline Hazardous Material Safety Administration (PHMSA). As such, the Company’s testing programs and policies regarding the use of federally prohibited drugs or alcohol, for recreational or medical purposes, will remain in effect for these safety-sensitive, DOT covered positions.
