Microsoft Silicon, Cloud Hardware, and Infrastructure Engineering (SCHIE) is the team behind Microsoft’s expanding Cloud Infrastructure and responsible for powering Microsoft’s “Intelligent Cloud” mission. As Microsoft's cloud business continues to deploy innovative offerings, the ability to deliver new types of hardware infrastructure on time, at scale, with high quality and predictable cost is of paramount importance. The Hardware, Infrastructure Management, and Fundamentals Engineering (HIFE) team is instrumental in defining and delivering Microsoft cloud hardware. We are looking for a Senior Director to lead the New Technology Engineering (NTE) organization. NTE is responsible for leading the engineering, validation, and production readiness for cloud service capacity for New Technology hardware footprints. This position is for a highly dedicated senior leader with experience managing high-performance teams in a dynamic, large-scale cloud delivery setting. This role has a direct and measurable impact on delivering next generation capabilities to our Azure customers. A successful candidate for this role will leverage their analytical, leadership, and communication skills and their deep expertise around data center deployments to deliver innovative solutions and lead a complex team. We are looking for experienced engineers with a passion for customer focused solutions, insight, and industry knowledge to envision and implement future technical solutions to deliver cutting-edge cloud infrastructure solutions.


Responsibilities

As a Senior Director, New Technology Engineering (NTE), responsibilities will include:
  • Coach and mentor senior leaders within the team.
  • Partner with technology leaders and influencers to rationalize technology and product portfolios and drive development of new technology initiatives forward as appropriate.
  • Manage teams handling the introduction of new cloud services, hardware platforms and tools/ processes to deploy next generation cloud infrastructure capabilities.
  • Use data to identify, prototype, and drive the implementation of technical and process. improvements to increase the predictability, agility, and quality of our capacity deployment systems.
  • Provide technical and organizational leadership, and drive collaboration across organizations to deliver processes and tooling readiness for New Technology deployments in Data center.
  • Effectively communicate with and influence executives and technology leaders inside and outside of Microsoft.
  • Oversee NTE’s relationships with and encourage partnership with organizations across Microsoft such as Data Centers, Supply Chain, Hardware, and Software Development, Architects, Program Managers, Business Development, Legal and other relevant Microsoft teams invested in ensuring that new services meet scale and cycle time specifications for high volume deployments.
  • Continuously drive improvements in the Time-to-Market (TTM) for the introduction of new cloud services.
  • Serve as a member of the HIFE Leadership Team, accountable for modeling and encouraging core cultural values such as respect, integrity, and accountability.
  • Create a high-performing, inclusive environment that attracts and retains high-performing engineers.
  • Drive technical projects from requirements through launch, including managing complex project schedules, removing roadblocks, and keeping processes running smoothly.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:
  • 6+ years of experience managing cross-functional and/or cross-team projects.
  • 5+ years of people management experience.
  • OR equivalent experience.
  • 3+ years of experience using data analytics for continuous improvement, risk management, and troubleshooting.
  • Bachelor's Degree AND 8+ years experience in engineering, product/technical program management, data analysis, or product development
    • OR equivalent experience.

Other Qualifications:
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.


Additional or Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with infrastructure supporting cloud services.
  • 10+ years experience managing cross-functional and/or cross-team projects.
  • Demonstrated experience coaching and mentoring other senior leaders.
  • Executive communications skills, including in writing.
  • OR equivalent experience.
  • Familiarity with cloud service, data center, and hardware engineering concepts.
  • 6+ years people management experience.
  • Demonstrated experience leading and growing high-performance organizations.
  • Excellent process and project management capabilities.
  • Experience in a technology company, with a proven track record impacting Data Center Operations and strategy.
  • 10+ years of experience in engineering, product/technical program management, data analysis, or product development OR equivalent experience
  • Bachelor's Degree AND 12+ years experience in engineering, product/technical program management, data analysis, or product development
    • OR equivalent experience.

Technical Program Management M6 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $158,500 - $276,600 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $202,800 - $304,200 per year.
