Job Description

Summary

Save the Children Action Network (“SCAN”) – a 501(c)(4) organization – is the political advocacy arm of Save the Children. We are building bipartisan support to make sure every child has a strong start in life. We’re doing this by advocating for high-quality early learning and ending child hunger in the U.S., the safety of children arriving at the southern U.S. border and educating and protecting kids around the world. SCAN is seeking a Senior Advisor, Resource Development for Policy, Advocacy, and Campaigns (PAC).

The Senior Advisor for Resource Development, PAC will lead in planning and executing an annual private fundraising strategy for the PAC division and SCAN. In support of divisional goals, you will work in close partnership with the agency’s Resource Development division to drive revenue growth and new funding opportunities for Save the Children’s advocacy campaigns, with a specific focus on securing multi-year gifts from high net-worth individuals, corporations, and foundations. Additionally, you will support the Chief Operating Officer (COO) of SCAN in developing and implementing a plan to substantially increase funding SCAN’s electoral campaigns, ensuring a good mix of funding from low, medium, and high-dollar individual donors.

Reporting to the COO of SCAN, you will directly or indirectly manage all aspects of donor cultivation, from research to proposal development to report writing to stewardship.

What You’ll Be Doing (Essential Duties)

Lead Fundraising Strategy for PAC and SCAN - 40%

  • Monitor and report on team progress toward fundraising goals; document all actions in BBEC.
  • Create and implement a strategy to achieve private fundraising goals fully in line with divisional plans, focusing on short-term success and long-term support.
  • Work in close partnership with policy, campaign, finance, program and marketing colleagues to position the division’s work and future plans with individual philanthropists, corporations and foundations as a long-term partner of choice.
  • Stay up to date on division priorities and how they align to fundraising trends in the private sector.

Support Cultivation of Current and Prospective Private Donors – 30%

  • Prepare and execute cultivation strategies for current and prospective donors for SCAN’s electoral work.
  • Develop proposals and reports, ensuring that they are of the highest quality and submitted on time and in accordance with donor requirements.
  • In partnership with Resource Development division, develop cultivation strategies for Save the Children’s advocacy campaigns, focusing on high-net worth individuals, corporations and foundations, including community foundations in the states where Save the Children and SCAN work.
  • Develop briefing materials and ensure CEO of Save the Children, VP of PAC, COO of SCAN and other leaders within Save the Children (as necessary) are prepared for donor meetings and outreach; draft all communications; and ensure prompt follow up.

Serve as Key Liaison for Resource Development Across Save the Children – 30%

  • Collaborate with colleagues across the agency, particularly finance, to ensure all donor expectations for reporting are fully satisfied.
  • Serve as leadership link with the Resource Development Division for strategy and cultivation of high-dollar donors, including individuals, foundations and corporations.
  • Establish productive work relationships and ensure strong internal communications across the agency to guarantee all external donor communication is coordinated.
  • Advise Policy, Advocacy & Campaigns leadership team and Resource Development colleagues on fundraising goals and opportunities, advocacy priorities and best practices.

Required Qualifications

  • Professional proficiency in spoken and written English
  • Ability to work productively and proactively, both independently and within a cross-functional team environment
  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering and maintaining and environment of diversity, inclusion, and belonging.
  • Willingness and ability to travel up to 20%
  • Professional proficiency in MS Office suite
  • Demonstrated success in writing grants and other donor communications (e.g., letters of inquiry, proposals, reports)
  • Demonstrated ability to anticipate, maintain, and deliver on multiple priorities, often with conflicting deadlines
  • Minimum of a Bachelor Degree or equivalent experience, plus at least 7 years of relevant experience
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with individuals and teams at all levels, both internally and externally

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge about grassroots and advocacy campaign
  • Knowledge of customer relationship management databases (e.g., Blackbaud)
  • Experience with foundation relations in a nonprofit setting
  • Experience in online advocacy fundraising

Compensation

Save the Children Action Network pays the following salary ranges for this position, dependent on candidate location:

  • Geo 2 - Locations around the US National Labor Cost Average: Target Salary for this position is $98,600 – $110,200 base salary
  • Geo 1 - NY Metro, DC, and other locations with labor costs significantly above national average: Target Salary for this position is $108,800 – $121,600 base salary
  • Geo 3 - Locations significantly below the US National Labor Cost Average: Target Salary for this position is $88,400 – $98,800 base salary

Actual base salary may vary based upon, but not limited to, relevant experience, base salary of internal peers, business sector, and geographic location. Employee may be eligible for an incentive program. Save the Children also offers paid vacation, accrued at least 12 days a year, depending on paygrade and length of service, paid safety and wellness leave of at least 1 day per month worked for a full time employee which is pro rata reduced for employees working less than a full time schedule, and at least 10 paid holidays a year. Employees may be eligible for additional bonus compensation.
