Job Description
Summary
  • It will be a 6-month contract with the potential for a conversion to a permanent role.
  • The client is looking for a senior accountant with 3-5+ years of experience. This role is a general ledger accountant who will be responsible for the month-end close task (journal entries, reconciliations, etc.). Previous GL accountant experience in the industry would be a plus but not required. The position is in the Utility accounting department both for regulated (ETG and SJG) and non-regulated subsidiaries.
  • The role is open due to a promotion and capacity constraints as they're approaching their first month-end close in Workday.
Roles & Responsibilities
Essential Functions:
  • Proactively suggest and help select appropriate methods and techniques in performing task
  • Participating in group meetings. Presenting results of work, interpreting data, and drawing conclusions regarding presented material and nature of work
  • May review staff accountant work products
  • Collaborating with supervisory personnel to develop routine methods and demonstrating deep level of understanding project goals and methods
  • Responsible for providing support for regulatory filings and rate cases as needed
  • Ownership- Independently ensures issues are driven to resolution in a timely fashion
  • Responsible for month end close (journal entries, reconciliations, etc.) for the regulated utility companies
  • Viewed as a subject matter resource. Proactively provides technical accounting guidance to other departments to ensure appropriate recording of transactions.
  • Recommends alternatives, identifies new methods and techniques and proactively seeks out senior personnel to discuss potential solutions to problems
  • Preparation of financial statements and footnotes for SEC filings
  • Independently planning and executing assigned tasks that support routine activities and project goals with minimal supervision
Minimum Qualifications
Required Background:
  • Equivalent work experience may be considered in lieu of degree
  • Bachelor's degree in related field with a minimum of 5 year of relevant experience Or Master's degree with 3 years of relevant experience
Preferred Background
  • Knowledge of regulated utilities.
  • C.P.A. preferred
Preferred Skills
  • Working knowledge of GAAP.
  • Working knowledge of Workday software a plus.
  • Strong MS Excel skills.
  • Knowledge of SOX controls.
