The anticipated salary range for this role is between $114,000.00 and $189,000.00. The specific salary offered to an applicant will be based on their individual qualifications, experiences, and an analysis of the current compensation paid in their geography and the market for similar roles at the time of hire. The role may also be eligible for an annual discretionary incentive award. In addition to cash compensation, SMBC offers a competitive portfolio of benefits to its employees.

Role Description

SMBC Americas Division (AD) Information Technology is seeking an Agile-Scrum Master to join the team. We are looking for an experienced practitioner to manage the delivery of technology solutions using scrum methods within the Technology organization. The Srum Master is also expected to have extensive experience as a project manager, capable of managing and delivering waterfall and hybrid projects.

Role Objectives: Delivery

Scrum-Agile

  • Facilitate medium-to-high complexity Agile initiatives from initiation through release
  • Actively manage issues, risks and external dependencies drawing in squad members as appropriate
  • Continuously seek to improve squad performance by promoting joint accountability for results and solving productivity issues
  • Assists Technical & Business Product Owners to shape the digital product road-map and vision
  • Facilitate discussions leading to collective decision-making, goal setting and conflict resolution within the squad
  • Manage Project Budget & Resource allocation
  • Create and maintain the appropriate channels for open communication within the squad (e.g. tracker boards, JIRA) to create a trusting and safe team environment
  • Collectively, with the Technical & Business product owner, own creation and prioritization of the digital product backlog for specific digital solutions
  • Provide on-going facilitation and coaching that enables the squads to excel at Agile development

Project Manager

  • Resolves or assists in the resolution of conflicts within and between projects or functional areas; implements changes where applicable
  • Manages vendors, negotiates/defines initial contracts, resolves issues, and provides ongoing communication; tracks deliverables
  • Manages clients/stakeholders (including subject matter experts from different Technical teams); determines needs, facilitates communication, and implements changes, where applicable.
  • Manages Project Budget & Resource allocation and utilization
  • Leads planning, execution and/or implementation of projects through all phases, tasks and timelines
  • Assist with Central PMO & IT Governance initiatives
  • Conduct Process Quality Reviews
  • Ensures project closure activities are completed, including completion of all tasks, final updates to Schedule, closure of all risks/issues and archival of all documentation
  • Submits CR's (Change Requests) and SML's (System Maintenance Logs) as part of the change management process

Qualifications and Skills

  • Tools: Proficiency ServiceNow SPM is preferred
  • Proficient working with Jira/Confluence, including some experience with configuration
  • Broad working knowledge of Agile frameworks is preferred: Scrum, Kanban, Lean, XP, and other advanced Agile frameworks (SAFe, DAD, etc.)
  • Working knowledge of system development lifecycle (SDLC) and process change/improvement
  • 3-5 years’ of documented Scrum Master experience with the ability to support three teams in parallel
  • Certification in a related project management process (PMI-PMP or PRINCE2) preferred.
  • Prior experience working within the financial services industry preferred
  • Certification as a Scrum Master (CSM) is required
  • Strong facilitator who can lead groups session and is equally comfortable in a collaboration role with business and technical resources at all levels, including senior management

Software Systems / Programming Languages: MS Office, MS Visio, MS Project, Enterprise Resource Management tools, CMMI/ITIL/COBIT is preferred
