Job Description

Janssen Research & Development LLC, a Johnson & Johnson company, is recruiting for a Scientist to support the discovery and development of novel therapeutics for chronic kidney diseases. The position is within the Cardiovascular, Metabolism, Retina & Pulmonary Hypertension Discovery Team, and will be based in Cambridge MA.

The Scientist will provide scientific and technical support for conducting research involving in vitro and ex vivo preclinical studies that relate to polycystic kidney disease. The qualified scientist needs to independently design and carry out experiments, troubleshoot problems, analyze and interpret data, and communicate findings. The research may encompass a range of pathways underlying the disease pathology, such as epithelial cell proliferation, innate immune responses, stromal cell responses/fibrosis, and vasculature abnormalities. A background in renal biology with a focus on in vitro or in vivo models of kidney disease is a strong plus. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate closely with in vivo pharmacology and biomarker teams by providing technical and strategic input, and by generating critical data to support target validation, candidate selection, and to help establish translational pharmacology plans
  • Reliably document, interpret results and data, and present scientific findings within project teams or to upper management to enable decision-making
  • Generate and test novel target ideas as a project champion
  • Develop and apply multiple preclinical in vitro or ex vivo models and cell-based assays to evaluate novel mechanisms or therapies related chronic kidney diseases such as autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD)
  • Execute on research plans as a core member of cross-functional program project teams to support the progression of novel drug candidates into clinical development and beyond
  • Pro-actively investigate, improve or change existing methods and techniques to effectively progress drug discovery programs

Qualifications

Education:

  • PhD or MD in cell biology, molecular biology, or a related area is required.

Experience and Skills:

Required:

  • Proven ability to work efficiently in a highly collaborative environment is required.
  • Experience with data collection, processing is required.
  • Post-graduate experience in a related field is required.
  • Highly motivated and a team player, with excellent oral, written, and interpersonal skills is required.

Preferred:

  • Deep understanding of kidney-related disease biology is strongly preferred.
  • Proven ability to lead projects to address complex biological questions is a plus.
