The Associate Director, Group Leader, CV Drug Discovery and Pharmacology will lead a group of scientists (~6) dedicated to the experimental study of pharmacology (in vivo, ex vivo) in the cardiovascular field. The position involves management of an established group of skilled in vivo scientists at our Lawrenceville, NJ location.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage the career progression of all members of the CV Pharmacology team.
  • Day to day responsibilities include data and protocol reviews, presentations to working groups and upper management, hands on laboratory oversight as needed.
  • Assess pharmacological suitability of potential business development assets.
  • Ensure smooth interactions and appropriate support levels to facilitate drug discovery progression within the working groups.
  • Contribute to the leadership of the CV Drug Discovery Biology team; policy matters, recruitment, succession planning, diversity.
  • Establish and implement a strategy to identify and validate new pharmacological models.
  • Build, organize and manage a group of talented scientists and contractors with expertise in pharmacology, predominantly focused on in vivo pharmacology, but also including ex vivo pharmacology.
  • Ensure appropriate interface with translational research and early development teams to ensure pre-clinical pharmacological testing supports molecule progression into the clinic.
  • Support compliance with institutional animal care and use policies.
  • Be a leading contributor to the overall drug discovery strategy development within CV Drug Discovery.

Qualifications and Experience

Basic Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of academic and / or industry experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree
    • 10+ years of academic and / or industry experience

Or

  • Master’s Degree
    • 8+ years of academic and / or industry experience
  • 8+ years of academic and / or industry experience

Or

  • 6+ years of academic and / or industry experience
  • Ph.D. or equivalent advanced degree in the Life Sciences
    • 6+ years of academic and / or industry experience

  • 2+ years of leadership experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Expertise in the field of CV Drug Discovery and Pharmacology based on experience and publication record with a strong focus on in drug discovery experience.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • PhD; + 8 years experience overall, significant industry experience.
  • Demonstrated success in interfacing with development teams and team leaders.
  • Demonstrated success in line-managing teams of 5+ scientists.
  • Commitment to developing one’s own leadership skills via participation in scientific management training.
