Job Description
Spectrum Healthcare Resources has an opportunity for a civilian PRN Registered Nurse – Urgent Care at the Fort Belvoir-sponsored Family Health Centers in Dumfries, VA. This position will require regular evening and Saturday shifts.

Essential Functions


  • Provides safe, accurate and clinically competent direct care to patients and families, recognizing patient needs.
  • Ensure that the patient or family understands follow-up and referral information.
  • Handles urgent/emergency situations. Utilizes the nursing process to coordinate and provide patient care.
  • Oversee the functions of the Urgent Care Medical Assistant to include competency assessment and scheduling.
  • Administers injections and medications. Start IV’s, maintain and administer IV fluids/meds as ordered by provider.
  • Performs assessment and triage of walk-in patients per protocol.
  • Performs patient intake vital signs, height and weight, reason for visit, interim history, allergies, medication lists, and other interventions as required.
  • Assists with office procedures. Administers treatments and performs diagnostic testing as ordered by the provider.
  • Documents plan of care. Documents phone calls per protocol.
  • Must have demonstrated knowledge of basic nursing skills and effective English (written and verbal) communication skills.
  • Utilizes the nursing process based on research and evidence-based outcomes.
  • Intervenes in complex patient and family situations.
  • Seeks appropriate assistance and uses clinic resources to enhance clinical decision-making.
  • Prepares patients for examinations. Obtains health history information, takes accurate vital signs, and reviews medications.
  • Under supervision of the practitioner, inform patients of clinical results, to include lab, radiology, and other studies and manage secure messaging communication.


Job Requirements


  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • At least 2-years’ experience as an Urgent Care RN.
  • Current BLS for Healthcare Provider certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
  • Nursing Diploma or Associates Degree in Nursing required; Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing preferred.
  • Demonstrated competence email and written communication.
  • An understanding of medical and clinic settings.
  • Availability to work a schedule within 700 AM – 800 PM weekdays, and 700 AM – 200 PM Saturdays.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Shall be able to read, write, and speak English well enough to effectively communicate with patients and other staff members.
  • RN License required; Current state nursing licenses or RN license from a participating state in the National Licensure Compact
