Job Description
Provides professional nursing care utilizing the nursing process to care for patients within an assigned unit


Coordinates care planning with other disciplines


  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Demonstrates the ability to coordinate effective patient/family education and discharge and transfer planning.
  • Demonstrates effective communication methods and skills using the lines of authority appropriately.
  • Develops and maintains effective communications mechanisms with staff members, home care staff, physicians, families and the community.
  • Maintains strict patient confidentiality.
  • Updates and coordinates patient care in cooperation with other members of the health care team, including IDT.
  • Dresses appropriately and meets hygiene standards.
  • Participates in evaluation of patient’s care needs and does care plans and updates.
  • Demonstrates awareness of responsibility and accountability for own actions and assigned responsibilities.
  • Maintains an awareness of patient’s condition and nursing care needs. Promotes care of the total patient with awareness of psychological, social, cultural, religious and family needs.
  • Demonstrates accurate/efficient utilization of equipment/supplies.
  • Demonstrates ability to coordinate each patient’s care and role each person should play in obtaining these goals.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of signs and symptoms of abuse and reporting mechanism.
  • Maintains a professional standard of nursing that reflects the philosophy and professional standards of the department and regulatory bodies.
  • Demonstrates appropriate care in regards to patient’s cultural beliefs, values and religion.
  • Completes the admission process timely and according to agency policy.
  • Reports directly to the Nursing Supervisor and ultimately to the Director of Home Care & Hospice all lapses in patient care and other employee issues.
  • Works closely with CNA providing delegation, instruction and supervision as necessary.
  • Performs job duties as a team member to assure the effectiveness of, and harmony within, the department.
  • Reviews departmental policy & procedures yearly.
  • Demonstrates the use of sterile technique with dressing changes.
  • Sound, effective decision making in all aspects of job performance.
  • Responds and performs appropriately and effectively in emergency situations.
  • Demonstrates professional medical care to the sick and disabled without regard to race, sex, age, creed, religion or inability to pay.
  • Prioritizes and utilizes time efficiently.
  • Supports hospital and departmental policies.
  • Demonstrates the basic standards of hospice and palliative care nursing practice by addressing symptom management, comfort care, providing support for the patient/family/caregiver, and coordination of care and services.
  • Demonstrates a thorough knowledge of multi system assessment and reassessment.
  • Demonstrates the ability to perform sub q button placement and follows correct administration policy.
  • Complies with NARMC HIPAA Privacy and Security policies.
  • CPR certification and Heimlich maneuver.
  • Demonstrates flexibility to departmental demands and scheduling.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of how to use equipment pertaining to patient care. How to maintain and clean equipment.
  • Observes patients condition and reports abnormal reactions and changes in patient condition to physician.
  • Assists with orientation of new employees as requested.
  • Has knowledge and demonstrates appropriate care for patients’ growth and developmental needs.
  • Understands responsibility to report issues with privacy, fraud and abuse, compliance and ethical conduct.
  • Assess ongoing appropriateness for current level of care correctly based on physical evidence, history/physical and supporting medical information.
  • Demonstrates effective pain management techniques.
  • Accurately documents supporting the current level of care.
  • Creates a positive image of NARMC at all times.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in medication administration including SQ pushes, and calculations of dosages.
  • Communicates at appropriate comprehension level to patients/families.
  • Demonstrates awareness of cost controls and strives to reduce department costs.
  • Implements appropriate nursing intervention to meet patient needs and changed condition according to physician orders.
  • Ensures the patient record documentation reflects delivery of quality and safe hospice care services.

Education


Graduate from an accredited nursing school


Bachelor’s degree from an accredited nursing school


Experience


One year hospital or nursing home experience.


1-2 years previous experience in Hospice nursing


3-5 years previous experience in hospital/LTC nursing


Degrees, Licensure, and/or Certification


Current RN license with the Arkansas State Board of Nursing or Compact, Multistate Licensure.


BLS CPR Certification


HPCN Certification


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities


Shall have a genuine interest in geriatrics, preferably, shall have experience in geriatric care.


Must be able to assess, evaluate and communicate effectively.


Must demonstrate sound knowledge and actions in patient care and decision making.


Participates in continuing education to broaden knowledge and acquire skills necessary to be effective in all aspects of job performance.


Demonstrates a desire for self-improvement.


Must have reliable transportation and a valid Arkansas driver’s license.


Must be able to read, write, speak and understand English


Utilizing a cooperative team approach with the supervision and direction of the Surgical Technologist, and with previous training, the surgical tech intern will perform the following duties in the surgery/gilab/sterile processing departments.


  • Put away sterile supplies.
  • All duties that may be assigned to a Sterile Processing Tech.
  • During procedures “handing” instruments and cameras.
  • Begin “buddy-call” upon completion of new employee orientation.
  • Setting up and maintaining sterile fields.
  • Opening supplies and gathering equipment for surgical procedures.
  • All duties that may be assigned to an orderly.
  • Print preference cards and “pick” cases.


Education


A student in good standing in an accredited school of surgical technology program.


Must have a copy of a diploma or offical transcript of the highest level of education


Experience


Must have basic knowledge in surgical technology and have begun hospital clinical rotations.
