Internet Safety Labs, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, is the first independent software product safety testing organization, building the science of software safety measurement. Our mission is to illuminate and quantify the risky behaviors of software and software driven technology.

Since 2019, ISL has created software safety standards for mobile apps and websites, conducted safety audits, and performed an extensive US K12 EdTech safety benchmark. Join our team as we continue to lead software product safety, unrelentingly on the side of consumers.

Job Summary

Internet Safety Labs is looking for a Software Safety Research Intern to assist with software safety testing research.What is software safety testing? It’s examining mobile apps and websites to ascertain safety risks to users. Never heard of it? That’s because it’s pretty new. Fear not, we’ve got a training curriculum with your name on it! If you are a critical thinker, detail oriented, highly curious, and ambitious, we’ve got a great internship for you.

Responsibilities and Duties

·Perform safety audits on mobile apps and websites under the guidance of our Product Testing Team, primarily examining UX behavior and data supply.

·Collect safety data for ongoing research projects.

·Carefully document all findings, double and triple checking work as needed to ensure accuracy.

·Present findings internally.

Qualifications and Skills

Education

-Undergraduate degree [in progress is OK] in economics, statistics, computer science, or mathematics preferred.

Experience

-Research or lab experience preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

·Experience with MS365, SharePoint and Microsoft Office suite of tools (Excel, Word and PowerPoint).

·3+ years experience using spreadsheets.

·Database skills desired.

·Highly analytical and detail oriented, able to critically evaluate technology behavior.

·Fast learner. Ability to understand new information at a fast pace using excellent communication and listening skills.

·Team player.

·Self-starter, able to carry through on projects.

·Trustworthy and strong ethical sensibilities.

·Comfortable working in a dynamic startup environment.

·San Diego, Las Vegas or west coast location preferred.

Compensation Range

$18-$20/hr
