Job Details


We are seeking a highly motivated and knowledgeable Biologist with expertise in California flora/fauna and wetland delineations to join our environmental consulting team. As a key member of our organization, you will play a crucial role in conducting ecological assessments, identifying plant and animal species, and assessing wetland boundaries to support our clients in complying with state and federal regulations.


Responsibilities


California Flora and Fauna Expertise Conduct comprehensive surveys and assessments of plant and animal species native to California ecosystems. Identify and document plant species, wildlife, and habitats, using field guides, data records, and specialized knowledge to support conservation and environmental management efforts.


Wetland Delineations Lead and assist in wetland delineation projects according to the guidelines set by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and state agencies. Accurately map wetland boundaries, assess wetland functions, and prepare detailed reports for regulatory compliance purposes.


Field Research and Data Collection Plan and execute field expeditions to collect ecological data, including vegetation sampling, wildlife observations, and wetland characteristic assessments. Ensure precise data collection and maintain organized records to support scientific analysis and reporting.


Environmental Impact Assessments Collaborate with environmental planners and project managers to assess the potential impacts of proposed development projects on California flora, fauna, and wetland ecosystems. Contribute to the preparation of Environmental Impact Reports (EIRs) and other environmental documents.


Regulatory Compliance Stay up-to-date with federal, state, and local regulations related to California's flora, fauna, and wetland conservation. Ensure that all assessments and surveys adhere to relevant environmental laws and guidelines.


Client Engagement Effectively communicate with clients, government agencies, and stakeholders, providing expert advice on ecological matters, wetland regulations, and conservation strategies. Represent the company professionally and maintain positive client relationships.


Collaboration and Teamwork Work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team of scientists, ecologists, and environmental specialists to integrate biological findings into larger environmental projects.


Requirements


Bachelor's or Master's degree in Biology, Ecology, Environmental Science, or a related field.


Proven experience in conducting biological surveys, vegetation sampling, and wildlife assessments in California's diverse ecosystems.


Strong knowledge of California flora and fauna, including rare and endangered species.


Demonstrated expertise in wetland delineation methodologies and regulatory requirements.


Familiarity with environmental laws and regulations relevant to California, such as the Clean Water Act and the Endangered Species Act.


Proficiency in using GIS and other software tools for data analysis and mapping.


Excellent written and verbal communication skills for producing comprehensive reports and engaging with clients and team members.


Ability to work independently and as part of a team, managing multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines.
