We are looking for Wind Technicians to maintain all aspects of our turbines (e.g., electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, etc.).
This is a full-time, permanent position with significant room for advancement. This is both the entry level and initial training level for the series. The hiring manager may elect to fill this position at the higher Wind Tech II level dependent upon a candidate's skills and experience.
The physical work location will be at Duke Energy’s Kit Carson Wind Farm in Burlington, Colorado.
Kit Carson Wind Farm
consists of 34 GE wind turbines, generating over 51 megawatts of electricity.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Perform pad mounted Transformer switching in accordance with all Hazardous Energy Controls Procedures
  • Always maintain a high level of safety awareness
  • Diagnose and resolve faults on turbines as they relate to mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic problems
  • Perform preventative maintenance, corrective maintenance, performance monitoring and evaluation
  • Maintaining all aspects (e.g., electrical, mechanical, civil, etc.) of turbines in a safe, high quality, and efficient manner
  • Perform troubleshooting to identify the root cause of an issue and perform corrective actions or open a service case with equipment manufacturer
  • Climb heights 300 ft. and greater several times daily
  • Maintain EH&S Documentation and complete necessary paperwork (work order, timesheet, tool and PPE inventory, and additional paperwork as necessary) within Maximo
  • Perform small or large corrective tasks on wind turbines
  • Perform energy isolation in accordance with all Lock Out / Tag Out Procedures
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Wind Technician Level I:
  • In addition to the High School/GED requirement, the ability to complete level I job performance measures and training in Duke Renewable Academy within 1 year
  • High School/GED
Wind Technician Level II:
  • High School/GED
  • External Candidates- In addition to the High School/GED requirement, (3) plus years of related work experience. Must pass required Turbine Technician I and Electrical Operator I JPMs within the probationary period.
  • Internal Candidates- In addition to the High School/GED requirement, (1) plus year of technical experience with Duke Energy as a Wind Technician. Must also have Turbine Technician-1 and Electrical Operator1 JPM Completed.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High voltage and substation maintenance experience
  • OSHA 10 Hour Construction Safety and Health Certification
  • AAS degree or certification in Wind/Renewable Energy or applicable field of study
  • Experience in the areas of Industrial safety and electrical hazards
  • Knowledge of heavy equipment for facility maintenance and working knowledge of crane and rigging requirements
  • Experience with limit and proximity switches, photo-electric sensors, and solenoid valves
  • Familiarity with most electrical and mechanical components in GE: bridge rectifier, diodes, fuses, relays, solenoid valves, thermal breakers, contactors, yaw motors, accumulators, pressure relief valves, gearbox motor retrofit, pitch motors, pitch batteries, PT 100, Maxwell Ultra Cap capacitors, IGBT, and main breaker
  • Competent with Maximo EZ Max mobile work and My Time management systems
  • Basic understanding of pneumatics, and basic understanding of hydraulic systems
  • Experience with multiple wind turbine supplier technologies
  • Experience with the GE 1.X platform, preferably GE 1.5 ESS
  • Forklift certified
  • CPR and AED Training Certification
  • Microsoft Office Including Excel/Word/PowerPoint
  • Additional years of experience with wind turbines: troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance
  • Familiarity with mechanical and electronic testing equipment (i.e., voltage testers, amp clamps, oscilloscopes, and various hand and power tools)
  • Experience with 400 DC and 690 AC motors
  • TSL tower climber and rescue & EEM training
  • Knowledge of electrical, mechanical, Hydraulic, Meteorological, Environmental, Safety, Instrumentation, and control
WORKING CONDITIONS
  • Exposure to noisy, dusty conditions, chemicals, or solvents
  • Safe Working Weight Requirement - This position contains a weight restriction of 265 pounds as an essential function of the job. The purpose of this restriction is to ensure that all weight rated equipment is used in an appropriate and safe manner within maximum allowed weight loading.
  • Completion of OEM or third-party technical specialty training program.
  • Exposure to mechanical, electrical, and/or other hazards
  • The ability to climb turbine towers (up to 400ft) daily is a requirement of this position
  • Any travel to projects
  • Ability to lift 75lbs individually
  • Working in all-weather outdoor conditions (extreme heat, cold, wind, rain, snow)
  • Work at heights greater than 300 feet daily
  • Field Mobility Classification – Work will be performed in various field locations, as needed, after the onboarding period. However, field employees are required to live within a reasonable daily commute to their assigned work location.
  • Walking, Climbing of stairs, ladders, and/or scaffolds
  • Must be able to pass a background check, drug test, & preemployment physical prior to hire
  • Operate equipment including but not limited to forklifts and commercial motor vehicles
  • Valid Driver’s License required

COMPENSATION PACKAGE:
Compensation for the role will depend on several factors, including a candidate’s qualifications, skills, competencies, and experience.
The pay range for Wind Tech Level 1 is $22.88 to $34.33 per hour
The pay range for Wind Tech Level 2 is $26.44 to $39.62 per hour
