Job Description
Who We Are

The de Beaumont Foundation is a private charitable foundation that advances policy, builds partnerships, and strengthens public health to create communities where people can achieve their best possible health. We strongly believe that the spirit in which we do our work is as important as the work itself. We pride ourselves on excellence, innovation, fostering collaboration between groups that might not otherwise interact, and a willingness to have fun with our work.

Position Overview – What You’ll Do

The Public Health Workforce Interests and Needs Survey is a nationally representative survey of the state and local governmental public health workforce. The survey has been administered in 2014, 2017, and 2021, and will be entering the field again in 2024. Reporting to the Research Officer, the Research Associate will be a part of the planning, administration/implementation, data management, analysis, and reporting/evaluation of PH WINS. This involves tasks such as revising the PH WINS instrument, recruiting health departments to participate, fielding the survey, cleaning and analyzing data, and disseminating results publicly and to participating departments. The Research Associate will have the opportunity to publish in peer reviewed literature and contribute to technical assistance products that encourage action to improve the governmental public health workforce.

Responsibilities And Opportunities

Your day-to-day work will include activities such as:

Relationship Management: Coordinate with various partners and stakeholders to prepare and administer PH WINS. This includes gathering feedback on the survey instrument, working with a network of recruitment partners to recruit health departments to participle in PH WINS, and consistently communicating with Workforce Champions (points of contact in participating health departments) and survey participants.

Project Management: Manage and support multiple work streams at once associated with the preparation, administration, data analysis, and dissemination of PH WINS. This may also include taking on roles and other special projects as needed to support and enhance the work of PH WINS.

Strategic Communications: Assist in the dissemination of PH WINS findings to various audiences clearly and succinctly. In the past, findings have been disseminated in written reports, infographics, presentations, and peer-reviewed journals. This will include regular communication with de Beaumont’s communications team and other communications and research partners.

Data Collection and Analytics: Prepare data collection tools and conduct data cleaning, analysis, and interpretation. This includes quality control for survey data collection, troubleshooting technical obstacles, communicating with respondents, completing technical assistance requests, and providing quality assurance for all reporting and analysis efforts.

Research: Contribute to reports and manuscripts for publication on de Beaumont’s website or in peer-reviewed journals. This may include performing literature reviews, writing and editing all or parts of a product, and providing support through the peer-review process.

Who You Are

To be successful in this job, you excel in these areas:

Data-oriented: You seek out what works and what doesn’t and find ways to learn from metrics to refine strategies, focus efforts, and pivot when needed.

Strategic & Hands-on: You have excellent conceptual, analytical, and forward-thinking skills. You not only contribute ideas but are also able and eager to implement them.

Relationship management: You have a good sense of how to manage relationships with members, staff, and partners, as well as build new relationships. You handle confidential information sensitively and use discretion about what information you share with members and partners.

Collaborative: You work effectively and efficiently with others towards a common goal.

Resourceful: You find practical and effective ways to accomplish tasks and are willing to ask questions and research options when facing a new project.

A multitasker: You are comfortable with juggling multiple projects and priorities at once, as well as finding and capitalizing on the connections among them.

Ownership: You care deeply about doing what it takes to achieve results and can manage your own projects (or pieces of larger ones). You drive work forward with a sense of urgency, anticipate problems, and course-correct when needed.

Mission-driven: You want to make a difference and have an interest in advocacy and cause-driven communications.

Entrepreneurial: You anticipate challenges and opportunities and raise them proactively to optimize outcomes down the line. You take initiative and run with new ideas.

The ideal candidate will possess the attributes above and many of the following professional abilities and experiences.

  • Completion of an advanced degree (e.g. MA, MPH) and two years of relevant experience preferred. A combination of education and experience may be substituted for the education requirements.
  • Experience or interest in contributing to survey research studies.
  • Analytical skills, including research and statistical methods. Demonstrated skills in data collection, management, analysis, and reporting.
  • Knowledge of the state and local governmental public health workforce is a plus.
  • Strong project management skills. Demonstrated ability to meet multiple deadlines by maintaining a high level of organization. Able to move quickly from one task to another, prioritizing requests and managing timelines.
  • Proficiency in conducting data analysis using STATA is required.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, including ability to convey technical concepts to a non-technical audience and to provide excellent customer service.
  • Experience using Qualtrics and Tableau strongly preferred.

Compensation

Compensation is commensurate with experience. The salary range is $70,000-73,000.
