Job Purpose
We are seeking a talented and detail-oriented individual to join our Discovery team as a research associate. Under the supervision of the Head of Discovery Platforms and senior scientists, this candidate will be responsible for the planning and execution of experiments involving next-generation sequencing (NGS) including single-cell RNA-sequencing and high-throughput library screens. This role will involve bringing a new class of cellular therapies to patients using GCTx’s Human TFomeTM platform, a synthetic biology- driven technology to differentiate human stem cells. The candidate should be coachable, determined, well- organized, responsible, and able to collaborate with other team members.
Duties and Responsibilities
General Laboratory Roles:
- Participate in the design, planning and execution of experiments.
- Follow all safe laboratory practices and company policies.
- Make observations, analyze results and maintain a detailed laboratory journal.
- Summarize results and create presentations for internal group meetings.
- Work with other members of the research team and within GCTx to accomplish company goals.
Experimental Techniques:
Molecular Biology
- Design and perform next-generation sequencing experiment including single-cell RNA-sequencing and genome sequencing, e.g. on the Illumina platform.
- Coordinate sample tracking between internal teams and submit samples to external vendors.
- Quality control, validate and troubleshoot library preparation protocols using complementary analytical methods (e.g. qPCR, ddPCR).
- Operate, maintain, quality control and troubleshoot next-generation sequencing instruments such as the Illumina MiSeq.
Qualifications
Essential Qualifications:
- Ability to work in a laboratory environment approximately 75% of the time including some weekends.
- 2+ year track record of lab experience.
- Proven experience in molecular biology laboratory techniques.
- Strong project management and organizational skills and ability to prioritize and multitask.
- Effective communication with excellent organization and interpersonal skills.
- Proven experience in molecular biology laboratory techniques.
- Experience with next-generation sequencing workflows.
- B.Sc. or M.Sc. degree in biology, cell biology, bioengineering, biochemistry, or related discipline. Preferred prior industry experience.
Additional Preferred Qualifications:
- Ability to conduct high quality presentations at internal meetings.
- Methodologies.
- Knowledge of R or Python and experience with the analysis of next-generation sequencing data.
- Authorship on scientific reports and manuscripts.
- Experience with the 10X Chromium platform for the generation of single-cell RNA-sequencing libraries and digital droplet PCR
