Job Summary
The Institute on Disabilities at Temple University learns from and works with people with disabilities and their families in diverse communities across Pennsylvania. Our work aims to build a society where all people are valued and respected and where all people have the knowledge, opportunity, and power to improve their lives and the lives of others. The Institute on Disabilities has a long history of working in partnership with people with disabilities and their families. The Institute on Disabilities recognizes that individuals with lived experience of intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) are uniquely qualified to engage in meaningful inclusive disability research. The Institute on Disabilities is recruiting a Research Associate with lived experience of IDD to enhance the inclusivity and impact of our programs and projects.
This position is at the Institute on Disabilities at Temple University - Pennsylvania's University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities Education, Research, and Service (UCEDD). UCEDDs provide university and community training, innovative services and supports, technical assistance, research, and dissemination to support people with disabilities in their pursuit of independence, productivity, community inclusion, and overall quality of life.
The Research Associate will perform qualitative and quantitative research, analysis and writing duties. They will work on various grant funded research and evaluation projects including: Independent Monitoring for Quality and OVR Comprehensive Statewide Needs Assessment. The position reports to the Director of Research and Evaluation. Performs other duties as assigned.
People with IDD and lived experience at the intersection of disability other marginalized identities are strongly encouraged to apply. People with lived experience of intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) are uniquely qualified to guide and participate in inclusive disability research. Having someone with lived experience of IDD on a research team informs research questions, shapes research design, and identifies barriers and strategies for collecting data and sharing findings. This improves the research and results in stronger, more relevant research outcomes.

Required Education and Experience:
Seven years of Lived Experience of intellectual or developmental disability or a Bachelors Degree and two years of experience. Both will require directly related experience in human service or behavioral science in the field of disabilities. Experience with federal, state and local policies and services concerning people with disabilities; publishing experience in disabilities or related field. Directly related experience identifying research priorities, recommending inclusive and accessibility practices, and liaising with the disability community. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Required Skills and Abilities:
- Demonstrated research (both qualitative and quantitative)
- Strong technology/computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite, SPSS, database maintenance and social media
- Awareness of and comfort with issues of diversity, specifically around disability, race, class, and gender
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and with other agencies
- Ability to move within diverse communities and environments with ease and confidence
- Passion and commitment to promote quality of life for people with disabilities
- Analyzing and solving problems
- Ability to collaborate with multiple partners
- Ability to travel within Pennsylvania is required
Preferred:
Relevant experience (preferably at a University Center for Excellence), Bachelor’s in education.

This is a grant funded position.
This position is assigned a hybrid work arrangement (on-campus and remote), the duration of this hybrid work arrangement is at the discretion of Temple University and the Department.
