Job Description
Position Summary


The Research Associate I is responsible for developing product profiles for social media platforms as part of the overall production of the Building H Index. The Research Associate will also assist with a variety of tasks associated with the production of the Building H Index.


This position is currently remote. Candidates from all regions in the United States will be considered. The timing of the hours to be worked is negotiable, but the person in the position is expected to be available for occasional meetings during core business hours for the Pacific time zone.


The position is part-time (25% FTE), expected to work 10 hours per week.


Full pay range for this position: $24.59 to $34.62 per hour. The typical hiring range for this position is from $24.59 (minimum) to $29.60 (midpoint) per hour. The starting wage is determined based on the candidate’s knowledge, skills, experience, as well as budget availability.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities


Develop draft product profiles for up to six social media platforms


  • Conduct literature research on the ways in which these platforms affect the health of their users by influencing five health behaviors: eating, physical activity, sleeping, engaging socially and spending time outdoors
  • Develop survey questions for users of the different social media platforms
  • Examine each of the social media platforms in order to understand relevant feature and functions
  • Identify data/information gaps that could be filled with data from original surveys
  • Regularly review news stories about the platforms that could inform the analysis of their health impacts
  • Integrate all of these inputs into drafting of the product profiles


Work with scientific experts from the project partner to apply their recommendations to the measurement of social connection to the product profiles


  • Apply these recommendations to the profiles of social media platforms
  • Review product profiles in other product categories to ensure consistency with the recommendations and adapt the profiles as necessary


Assist in the production of the Building H Index


  • Assist as needed with the development of the final report and the preparation of the report for the website
  • Recruit volunteer raters
  • Assist with management and updating of the systems for tracking reviewer recruiting and the rating of the profiles


Perform other duties as assigned.


QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.


Minimum Qualifications


  • Bachelor’s degree in science or quantitative field, or substitute with four additional years of related experience.


Other Qualifications


  • Experience analyzing the influences that commercial products have on the health behaviors of their users
  • Strong ability to be responsive to multiple projects and timelines
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Must have extensive experience with Google Docs and Sheets
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Familiarity with the tactics of leading social media platforms to engage users and with contemporary criticisms of social media platforms
  • Ability to use discretion in handling confidential and sensitive documents/information
  • Ability to work well in a team as well as independently with the ability to display enthusiasm and willingness to take initiative
  • Experience conducting literature searches, summarizing and assessing the strengths and limitations of scientific studies
